HoeKey is a keyboard shortcut manager that works with a lot of applications and desktop functions.
There's not much people can ask from a program that sets hotkeys for desktop features or other tools, and HoeKey is no different from the rest. All the user can see is a long list of shortcuts organized in small sections that concern the general settings, system volume, miscellaneous items, and even Winamp options.
A bit lower there are only three buttons: 'Quit,' 'Edit Config,' and 'Close.' Obviously, you may ask what's the difference between 'Quit' and 'Close.' Well, the first exits the application completely, while the second simply closes the small window.
We were expecting the 'Settings' window to open within the program's GUI, but, in fact, it opened up with a 'CONFIG' file where we were able to manually introduce every shortcut according to a typical list of actions done by the operating system.
The user can change the hotkeys for the volume level, Winamp location, Winamp shortcuts, and other key combinations users have to press in order to get their desired process executed. After you're done changing your settings, click save, and the process is complete. For some weird reason, every time we started the application we got a 'There was a problem in your settings' message.
HoeKey is a solid desktop shortcut maker. It helps users set hotkeys for almost any action they want, both in the main system desktop and other apps as well. It also works good enough with the main Windows functions like sound volume and command shell, while other applications like Winamp are also compatible with HoeKey.
The settings aren't GUI-based, however, so they must be tweaked in a ‘CONFIG’ file. Although not a user-friendly task, it provides users enough flexibility to assign a hotkey to every action possible inside and outside the operating system.
