IP Info

IP Info is a simple and portable application with one purpose in mind: it shows your current public IP address and host name, which comes in handy when you use a proxy to frequently change these parameters, especially if you plan to go online from a public and unsecure network.

Since this is a portable package, you don't need to set up IP Info. Instead, you can save its tiny .exe file in any part of the hard disk or on a removable storage unit to directly launch it on any workstation you come across with minimum effort. What's more, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, thus leaving no traces behind after removing it from the computer.

Once IP Info is launched, it gets immediately sent to the system tray area, although this is not visually indicated through any notification message.

It automatically detects your current public IP address and host name, showing them in a small window that you can bring up to the screen by double-clicking the tray icon.

You can make a text selection to copy information to the Clipboard, as well as manually refresh data with the click of a button to obtain new values. There are no other notable options provided by this piece of software.

The app didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the PC in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. However, it failed to work on later Windows editions. We must also keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for a pretty long time, and it likely has compatibility issues with newer Windows. Nevertheless, you can still use IP Info on old Windows, like XP.
