PackPal DVD to iPod Converter is a program with a pretty self-explanatory name - it allows you to prepare DVD videos for iPod devices. But it can also convert them to the MPEG-2 format.

The interface of the application is plain and uncomplicated, making it easy to work with. You can import a DVD movie from disc or mounted image by using the folder view. It is possible to process multiple DVD videos in a single session.

The file list displays the title, length and size of each item. If you prefer to leave the default settings unaltered, then you can directly start the conversion operation after specifying the output profile and directory.

You can preview clips in a small, built-in media player, select the video resolution and quality, split clips by chapters or time segments, and check out logging details.

The video conversion utility requires a moderate amount of CPU and system memory, has a fair response time and includes user documentation. However, PackPal DVD to iPod Converter was unsuccessful in several attempts to convert DVD movies during our evaluation.

There is a 'Settings' option available through the context menu, but clicking it didn't bring up any window. You cannot modify audio and video properties (e.g. frame rate, bit rate, sample rate) or specify the thread priority. We must take into consideration the fact that PackPal DVD to iPod Converter has not been updated for a long time.
