XP Start Menu Logoff

PCs owned by singular users have some options destined for multi-user that are not necessary and in some cases annoying or memory consuming. The XP Start Menu Logoff application was designed to be a small utility that removes the Log Off option from XP's Start Menu.

It manages to accomplish this by changing the adding/changing the StartMenuLogoff value in: HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer. This solution is non-invasive by nature and does not affect other system features and functions.

In order to make this program work, you need to run XP_SMLogoff.exe and a confirmation dialog will appear when finished.  You will need to log off/back on or restart your computer for the change to take effect.

Upon system restart, you will notice that when presing the start menu, the only option left are the "Shut down" and "Restart" buttons.

However, take note that this process is reversible, and the Logoff feature can be restored at any time, without the need to reinstall the OS. All you need to do is open the application again, and uncheck the "Disable Start Menu Logoff" option. The app is lightweight and does not tamper with the system registries.
