Depending on the type, files can end up to take up a considerable amount of space, or just above a particular limit you might encounter in email attachments. A method in particular is to pack them inside an archive in order to reduce space, but you can also rely on applications like AnyFileCompressor in order to do so without archiving.

On the bright side of things, the application is portable, so you don’t have to go through a setup process to make it work, and it’s also possible to have it stored on a thumb drive in case you need or want to use it on other computers. Don’t worry, the health status of the target PC remains intact, because registry entries are not modified in the process.

Features are found in a pretty compact window, but it doesn’t pose any accommodation problems, regardless of experience. There’s a browse dialog you need to use in order to pick the file of interest. Sadly, dropping it over the window has no effect. Once this is done, the current size is displayed, and you can go on with compression.

Time it takes to compress a file mostly depends on the type and size. When completed, you’re informed on how much space is saved, while also being able to see the initial and resulting size value. Note, however, that decompressing a file isn’t done through the application window, but there’s nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately, the application doesn’t really bring any custom options or functions of compression, because it relies on the default Windows compression method. You’re able to view this in the Advanced menu of the Properties tab, and this is also the place where you decompress files, simply by deselecting the compression option.

AnyFileCompressor is a straightforward compression tool, which relies on existing methods, making them a little easier to trigger. However, it feels a little rough around the edges, since you can’t select multiple files, or decompress them later on through the application window.
