Instant messaging is at the core of so many endeavors these days, that it has become synonymous with the expression of communication for the modern digital user. Regardless of your platform of choice, there’s a pretty high probability that you’re using instant messaging in daily life. And since there are so many IM clients out there, it oftentimes can be tricky to find the right one for you.

Aiming at striking a balance between function and form, LINE and its communication capabilities were designed in order to offer users a centralized platform for chatting, exchanging media files, and performing a variety of other operations.

After installing the application, creating an account, and starting to use it, I was met with a very simple design, which although improves accessibility and handling efficiency, is only addressing the essentials of IM, and nothing more.

One could say that it’s old-school, or even obsolete, but given its scope and intended purpose, as well as the fact that its functionality addresses only the basics of chatting, its plain design can be forgiven.

As stated in the previous paragraphs, LINE sports a very basic design, and as you’d expect from such a simple IM client, so are its features. Consequently, you will be able to perform text formatting, access emojis, and all the other standard features.

However, for more demanding users, this might not cut it, and this is what could be dragging LINE “down the line”.

Despite being simple and straightforward in use, this IM client might not be sufficiently equipped with features to cater to the requirements of the profile of modern IM chatting users.
