OpenVPN GUI

Note: This used to be the home of OpenVPN GUI which I developed and maintained between 2004-2006. Since then other people have continued the development and the GUI is now included in the mainstream OpenVPN Windows packages

OpenVPN GUI is a practical and effective VPN solution worth having when you need to handle multiple connections simultaneously and configure proxy settings with ease.

By default, OpenVPN runs in a console window - however, by working with OpenVPN GUI, you are able to run the aforementioned application without actually accessing the console.

Once you launch the utility for the first time, you will notice that it will be automatically redirected to the notification area from where you can easily change the proxy settings.

The icon allows you to control OpenVPN the way you want. You can either start or stop the VPN tunnels, view the log file, as well as change your password according to your whims. Also, you are able to view connection details in the icon tooltip box.

Because the main window contains two tabs you can make use of, namely ‘Proxy’ and ‘General’, you are able to modify the proxy configurations the way you want, so you can get the best out of this VPN solution.

It allows you to use OpenVPN Config-file settings, system proxy options or simply manually configure the HTTP or SOCKS proxy.

OpenVPN GUI enables you to use Internet Explorer proxy settings; still, this is a reliable feature which can be very helpful for advanced users as they are required to manually configure such settings in the browser.

Considering all of the above, OpenVPN GUI proves to be a steady and effective solution when it comes to managing multiple VPN connections and running OpenVPN without the console window.
