As long as you’re connected to the Internet, your computer is exposed to numerous threats, but staying off the grid doesn’t make your PC completely safe. The sad part is, neither does an AV solution fully protect your system, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t install one anyway. Besides the Antivirus, there are also other utilities that go hand-in-hand, just like Sentinel.

The initial launch prompts you with a message that asks you to run a first scan, from which you cannot escape. Don’t be scared, because it doesn’t last that long, and it only makes sure files on your system are intact. There’s no post-process screen with results, and if all goes well, the main window pops up pretty soon.

In terms of visual design, there’s nothing outstanding, with elements a bit poorly integrated, but somehow managing to provide some personality. The upper part of the menu is fitted with several navigation tabs, such as one that takes you to the main menu, to scan, regwatch, appwatch, as well as options.

Don’t get the application wrong, because its main goal is not to identify viruses, but rather parts heavily affected by them. That’s why it’s a good idea to pay a visit to the options menu to integrate any antivirus app you might have with this program. This can be done either by selecting from a list and setting all parameters and exceptions, which works for advanced users, or to rely on a built-in wizard to help you configure compatibility.

The main tab is used as a presentation screen so you might as well go ahead and switch to Scan to see if your PC is OK. By default, the system folder is scanned, but you can easily add any folder you want, but only one is scanned per process. File types to look up need to be selected, with options like DLL, DRV, SYS, OCX, EXE, COM, PIF, and SCR.

Besides scanning system files, you can use two built-in watchers to keep an eye on any registry or application changes that occur in real time. Registries might require a system restart for proper functionality, while the application watcher can even provide the task list so you can browse through process IDs without using external tools to identify them.

The scan process depends on the folder you put under the scope. A new window pops up to show real time analysis, while results can only be viewed, or repaired through dedicated controls. If all goes well, you can make the app run on startup and have scans automatically performed to be on the safe side.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Sentinel is a neat and powerful companion for almost any kind of Antivirus solution. It takes a little time to get to know the set of features and set it up. It’s fast, and it provides a helping hand in restoring or attempting to prevent malicious infiltrations and heavy damage to your system.
