As reliable as modern-day PCs are, there are still plenty of cleverly disguised viruses lurking at the bottom of seemingly inconspicuous file download providers, eagerly waiting to prey on unsuspecting victims. For the small number of malware-ridden items getting past Windows’ defenses, some users find themselves having to reinstall the operating system from scratch.

Since restoring a fresh installation of Microsoft’s flagship OS can be cumbersome at times, programs such as FileList+ seek to aid users by creating records of their most important directories’ internal file structures to serve as blueprints when restoring the layout of their personal files’ locations.

When launched, the utility greets users to a dual-pane layout featuring a tree-style view of the actively selected local disk’s sub-folders’ contents collapsed into the right side section, where one can pick which items are meant to be included in the report. Movies and subtitles bundled together can be easily differentiated through the option to display the extension of each filename previewed.

Lists can be saved in the universal TXT format for easy copying and pasting into further databases or the PDF standard for viewing on mobile devices as well, if needed. Finally, the app can also export the records in the more flexible HTML extension for those who want to customize the layout, font size and colors for accessibility purposes.
