This has been confirmed by occasional various online free virus scans from Symantec, McAfee, and Windows Live. I would reccommend this product to anyone. Yes, this is a free product and may not offer all the features of other products, but combined with basic antispyware software such as Windows Defender, it protects your computer. I personally have questionable browsing habits and have never had an infection.
MattLee, perhaps this product will not work in your environment. Your time would be better spent finding a product that will work for you than wasting everyones time here. |

its updating is as slow as ever but now as an added bonus you get kicked offline more. who doesnt want that?
dont play second life with avast unless you want to have to reboot every 10-20 mins. perfect for those who need to play for 20 mins then take a break for 20 or more mins |

Don't listen peoples who rated it to a lower level than excellent.
I know it has a quite ugly interface but you can change that by adding a beautiful skin from website official gallery - personal I prefer vista skin.
This AV have a couple extremely important features that all the other top rated AV software's don't - they tried to imitate the avast but with a very poor success and only in one aspect, the rest they just couldn't to coupe up with.
One of these features is VRDB - extremely important.
The other one is scan at startup - also extremely important.
Finally it works just beautiful smoothly with Windows XP - without any kind of problems. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | I was testing nod32 today there are great reviews on this but not being able to scan many files until they activate or because they are secured by other programmes is not very good for an antivirus programme. I have been using Avast 4.7 for a while now it scans archive files etc I thought I would test it on shields up with Comodo firewall turned off all ports on all test were either closed ports or stealth. Avast lets you download an infected zip folder but when opened it will spring into action. Nod32 will detect before download. I know nod32 detects spyware etc Well I use Comodo BOClean & AVG free scanner |
