I realized finally their responses to my emails for help were form letters and it became apparent that they couldn\'t help me. I deleted the program and installed BitDefender. Did a deep scan and 27 infections were found and removed, and my problem is solved, finally!! What good is the extreme ease of use, (and it is extremely easy) when it\'s ineffective!! |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | I have used previous versions of Spyware Doctor without any serious negative issues for many years. At the suggestion of the screen prompts, I recently tried to download the 5.5 Upgrade to Spyware Doctor, and experienced great problems. My system froze-up and became completely useless. Under Windows \"Safe Mode\", I was able to restart and use a Recovery Point to get going again. I tried the install again, and got the same freeze-up condition. So far, (more than 24 hours) I have received no response from PC Tools or their corrective process. This upgrade is defective in my experence, and there is no help from PC Tools. Know how to use Safe Mode and Recovery Points before you try to install this upgrade. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Version 4.0 works well. However when I updated to 5.0, the noodles really hit the fan. As long as I put the computer in standby mode everything is ok when I wake it up. However, do not try to actually turn computer off, as it will freeze upon restart. What a stinking hassle. I have to quickly open task manager and stop spyware from opening. Then I remove the program, and re-install 4.0 WITHOUT 5.0 upgrade.
Also, Spyware does not catch all infections. I use the quicky scan in Advanced System Optimizer and it sometimes finds two or three which
Spyware did not. Maybe 5.5.0.204 is better. I am afraid to find out. |

CRASH.. forget this hey want to crash your computer make it inoperable and just totally screw up your day? give this a go. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Within minutes of automatic downloading V5 and running the scan with the new version, svchost became inoperable, affecting other Windows services, almost all of which were stopped, then after 20 minutes the NT Authority systen shutdown the computer automatically. Further restarts were also shutdown, system restore was inoperable and since Windows could still re-boot the last known good config was not available. Fortunately Add/Remove was available and using DOS to prevent the shutdowns from happening, I was able to remove SD V5 from my system. Immediately my system sprang into life and browser and email services started up immediately after an inactive two day period. Presently Windows Explorer is not displaying pages 100%correctly, but other than that the computer is fine.
I have asked PC Tools to refund me the value of the balance of my two year license. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Just installed the v5 update, and suddenly my PC couldn't find the internet. Not only that, but BitDefender wouldn't start anymore. I'm guessing that this product works fine in stand-alone tests, but in the real world, where you've got BitDefender, SpySweeper, and other such programs running all at once, the Doctor doesn't work, at least in my case. Once I uninstalled Spyware Doctor, all returned to normal. Since I only bought the program three months ago, I'd say the ROI here is pretty bad. My other gripe is that the darn thing (when it used to work) would pop up every morning with "There are updates available, should I install them?" There was no "automatically maintain yourself and leave me alone" option, as there is with BitDefender and SpySweeper (and even Windows XP, fer cryin' out loud).
I'd say, be careful before you install 5.0. If you already have a good AV program, you may decide to pass. |

As far as I know it is no longer classed as a suspect program but I don't believe that this particular leopard has changed it's spots enough
to deserve consideration. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | I trust this program very, very much. Nowadays, Spyware Doctor is among the very best in finding spyware and adware. It also stops you from visiting bad sites (if you have it activated all the time). It tried to stop me to visit a bad site which downloads against your will, the adware program called - Error Safe - (please avoid Error Safe, it is really criminal), but I thought that Spyware Doctor was wrong and visited the site anyway, to realize (with horror) when I saw the words Error Safe on that site, that Spyware Doctor was right. I have read about this adware before. Quickly I closed Firefox, but some adware were downloaded. I scanned my pc with Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spybot Search & Destroy. The first scan with Spyware Doctor was enough. I think that Spyware Doctor, nowadays, nearly finds most adware and spyware -in the wild-. It scans your pc a lot faster than Webroot Spy Sweeper (also among the very best), which is very slow. I only, now and then, scan my pc with Spyware Doctor. I do not have it activated all the time. This program together with Ad-Aware SE Personal (freeware) and Spybot Search & Destroy (freeware) are all you need against spyware and adware. If you also use Firefox (with the extension -no script-) you will very seldom find anything at all.
