| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Its a nicely made product. Great interface, fast scanning, etc.
I had a few problems with it...well just one...and it was quiet major.
The problem I had with it was that it was not letting me ignore VNC.
I have VNC installed on my system, and if you arent familiar with running a VNC software alongside of this program or Microsoft AntiSpyware, it is seen as a threat.
With Microsoft Antispyware once you tell it to ignore it, it will never bother you again. Of course the information from SpyNet tells MS AS to have the default action to be Ignore.
AOL Spyware Protection, on the other hand, has a default action of remove, but would not let me ignore it. I kept telling it to ignore, but it would repeatedly do a quick-scan 10 seconds later, find VNC and give me options again.
It would not add to the whitelist.
Other than that the program is fine.
it (annoyingly) detects cookies, like MS AS.
It gives users the option to remove or ignore.
It provides a nice interface.
The thing is, it feels REALLY light on the definitions.
I think it has a small library of definitions and checks the computer for the default locations of those definitions. My guess is that the library is 10% the size of Microsoft Antispyware, which leads me to believe that is the reason why scanning is blazing fast with AOL Spyware Protection.
Right now it doesnt have much value outside of the fact that its a freeware Anti-spyware product.
Library definitions are small and whitelisting is a horrible process.
Recommendation for now: not to use this as your sole anti-spyware product.
I recommend having the likes of Ad-Aware, SpyBot or Microsoft Antispyware in conjunction with this product for now. |
