But there are a few negatives about it.
The first is that the default filter has 30 entries.
The second is that unless you feel like manually entering entries which only have HTML type references, forget about importing the AdMuncher dat file to this program. I tried it and a lot of the entries do not work with Ads Filter, as revealed by the output log generated by the program.
Finally, unless you know where to find where the filter is installed, the import function will not do anything. You can try all you want to clear the filter points and import from a file, but you will find that it will just import the default filters again. That is because it reads the filters from the file, which isnt modified if you clear the filters. Itll be modified if you add an entry, at which point that entry will stick in there and become default.
The filters are located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Helexis\Ads Filter\adsfilter.txt
All you have to do is rename that file, get the file you want to import, make sure every entry is on its own line, then rename that file to adsfilter.txt and place it in that folder.
Basically with Ad Muncher you just have to rename the file C:\Program Files\Ad Muncher\ServerStrings.dat to adsfilter.txt and move it to the AdsFilter folder...making sure to remove the first two lines in the dat (which is just information and the copyright of the file). But as I said, most entries will not work with Ads Filter.
Overall it has a lot of promise being a freeware ad filter which works as an IE plugin, as opposed to a third party program which uses memory.
It just needs some filter updating ASAP. |
