| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Several new features have been added recently. For instance there is now spell check while you type, a more configurable ad blocker, add whatever search engines you like (I have Merriam-Webster's dictionary which is very convenient), it even has a screen capture with auto save, super drag-n-drop and mouse gestures. Check out the IE7pro site to see a full list of features. Also, while you are there, head over to their forum and see how active it is. There you can find where people have gotten help setting up IE7pro and where several user suggestions are made for future upgrades.
Finally, I am not real big on browser plug-ins, toolbars, BHO, etc. But IE7pro finally puts Internet Explorer back in the same user friendly league as Firefox and Opera. I have used it on XP and am currently using it with Vista. Also, I have what I consider to be some pretty good security products- Online Armor firewall, NOD32 antivirus, and I have went through several HIPS programs; currently I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 7 suite with IE in protected mode (Vista), DEP, UAC, etc. And I have never been alerted that IE7pro has been phoning home, gathering user data, etc. So I am pretty confident there are no privacy/security issues with this product. |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | Not only does IE7Pro provide functionality similar to Firefox's AdBlock... it also provides the ability to customize IE7's behavior in ways that are practical for "regular" users. And... IT WORKS!!! IE7Pro also has an active user community forum and wiki which I found very helpful. Now that I have found an easy way to block ads in IE7, I'm no longer missing Firefox! I suspect that IE7Pro has what it takes to become a very popular add-in for Microsoft's latest browser! |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Great software. I guess this is the only true plugin designed for Internet Explorer 7 (at least one which hasn't been made obsolete. See IEMiddleClicker...IE7 now has middle-click as open link in new tab/window built in).
Install is pretty easy...it will require a reboot of IE7 if you have it open. By default the command menu icon is not enabled, but the status bar icon is enabled. It would be nice if they enabled the command bar button by default since I doubt everyone will be looking to the status bar for access to the program. However, it is not terribly difficult to enable the command bar button from the status bar button.
One thing I like about the program is that they made the two most sought-after tweaks for IE7 very easily accessed and changed. That is, a tweak to enable the Menu Bar, and a tweak to disable the Search Bar. Sorry, this program like all others will require an IE7 reboot to enable those tweaks.
What is nice is that the program adds a lot of features to IE7 which people use FireFox for, and features which some people argue IE7 sorely lack. This includes:
Tab history
Mouse Gestures
URL Aliasing
Ad Filter
Search Aliasing
Of those four features, I barely use the aliasing feature. Shows how much I have been screaming for those features :P.
There are some features which seem to be too much. Save tab to image? What??? OK, I'm not that lazy...besides, I turned off Tabbing since I don't like tabs.
Some features are absolutely sweet, but will never be used...trust me.
Automatic proxy disable/enable through the use of a hotkey? Do you really think you will use that for LEGAL means?
View webpage info? Hey its great to see all the files and links on a page, but I'm never going to use that information for any useful purpose, let alone a legal one.
Just a few negatives with this program.
The status bar icon is accessed with a LEFT click instead of the usual RIGHT click. It will take a lot of work to get used to since I'm accustomed to the standard RIGHT click.
The Ad Filter renders Softpedia useless. This isn't because the Ad Filter is too good, it is because the default definitions disable a lot of Softpedia, including the Search bar. I don't feel like trying to find out which entry is the main culprit, so I just disabled the Ad Filter altogether.
Thats about it.
Hey, its free, so I'm not complaining.
Verdict: it will stay on my system :). |
