Intergration in to Internet Explorer (and firefox is you have the flashgot extension) can intergrate your virus scan in to it. its perfect. And Best part is.. its SAFE. usaly all download managers has spyware but this one is clean :-) I would give it 5 stars except they say you can preview zip files whitout downloading them but you cant... |

Nothing much new...just seem to have some kind of error each time I open it now:
"This application has failed to start because pncrt.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
Never had this for version 6.0...I think I might try reinstalling...
Still a great STREAM downloader. Best out there. |

This software seems and looks a lot like your standard internet download manager.
Integration with Internet Explorer...pick up downloads and allow multiple connections on the same download...blah blah blah.
The one thing that makes this software standout in comparison to all the other download managers like GetRight, or FlashGet, or Free Download Manager or the sort, is that it supports the downloading of video and audio streams.
Ever have an MMS video stream (see ESPN Personal PTI videos) that you just thought you HAD to have?
You ever notice thatit downloads a dat file to the temporary internet files folder, that is the size of the video, but you cant view it even if you copy it out of the folder?
Well this software will literally download that MMS Stream as the filetype it is. For example...it worked absolutely beautifully with ESPN Personal PTI. Personal PTI is a flash based viewer to watch video clips from the popular ESPN show PTI (Pardon the Interruption). The videos on the flash viewer are TV quality MMS streams which cant be downloaded, unless you have a program like this. I just got the MMS:// link to the video from the flash viewer, loaded it into HiDownload, and in a few minutes i had a working WMV file, video, audio and all.
Ive tried other competing products and I must say HiDownload is the best of them all. The most popular software is CoCSoft Stream Down (based on searching google for "MMS download". I tried that softwarewith the Personal PTI links. Stream Down was able to handle the link and download the file, but it didnt seem to pick up the audio. Maybe I forgot to set something, but the fact that HiDownload worked right out of the install without having to fool with anything makes me give the nod to HiDownload.
Its small, lightweight, and a great product.
The only gripe I have about the program is that it adds an entry to certain right click menus in Internet Explorer when I would prefer it didnt...Im just used to the menus as they were.
Overall: Highly recommended for the user desiring to download streaming media.
Note though: this does NOT support Streaming Real Media files. Programs that do this are illegal. The program to last try to do this, and do it successfully lost its court case against Real Networks and the software is now ILLEGAL in the United States. The software is called StreamBox VCR. Its still widely available (search google...sorry no links here)...so happy hunting. I havent tried it, but a lot of people rave about it. |
