But it's not THAT good. Why its one of the highest rated, if not the highest, escapes me.
Its easy to use, has a nice interface, and has a reasonable feature set. With a 4.7 rating (as of 6/28/08) I expected to be blown away. I mean, everybody's anachronistic darling, Foobar, is a 4.6. Winamp a 4.2, which this is based on. Since samplings follow a bell-shaped curve, a 4.7 is WAY higher than a 4.2. So I expected this player to be WAY gooder. I mean WAY better. I don't think it is. I can't discern that it does anything Winamp doesn't. And Winamp does some things this one doesn't:
When I first fired it up and loaded some songs into I found that the song titles (determined from the tags) displayed were too wide to display in the playlist. It would show the first part of the name (which were all the same) but not the end of the name, that is the part of the name that would actually help me determine which song was which in the playlist. In Winamp, no problem: resize the playlist. In AIMP, resize the playlist, or NOT. I had to set the playlist names to scroll to see them (a cool feature). The problem with that is it would only scroll the name of a single selected song. You couldn't just look at the list and see what songs were loaded.
Certainly not a killer problem. Plus AIMP is a heck of a nice piece of software for free. But a 4.7? Not in my book. |

The only player which is better than this is amarok for linux. It uses very less cpu and ram. Only 15 mb ram is being used. iTunes uses nearly 50 mb and sound qualuty is crappy. AIMP uses 32 bit sound quality and i dont know any other player which has a similar sounnd setting. AIMP for auido, vlc and smplayer for video is the best players around till now. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | I've been searching for an alternative audio player and stumbled upon this app. Although all in all it is a good alternative for WMP for general audio playback, it doesn't quite fit my need because of the CPU cycles the application generates. I will surely love to test a new verrsion if and when one comes out and hopefully the newer version won't eat up as much CPU time as the curent one. |

It has all winamp futures without beeing a cpu/memory hog.
Additionally is capable of using winamp plugins, recording AUDIO STREAMS (to mp3 for example), CONVERING audio files, RIPPING CDs, basic wave RECORDING, KDE kaffeine alike transparent info bar and more :)
File is not hosted on aimp.ru because of bandwidth traffic generated by downloads (it's still free project and bandwidth costs $ ;) )
As to false AV detects, i myself submitted two AIMP files (they were in beta stage at that time, and files was aimp plugins) to Avira since Avira Antivir detected them as viruses. Both of those submissions where classified by Avira stuff as False Positives :) |

Very easy to use once you get used to him, intuitive interface, greate VU-metters plugin (built-in), grate playlist features, wonderful EQ, totally free, on short the best replacement for winamp. WELL DONE RUSSIANS!! |

2. VirusTotal is NOT a trustworthy virus checking website! A lot of the programs it uses give FALSE alarms.
(3. When given an alarm from an antivirus you must also know how to interpret that alarm! An alarm does NOT necessarily mean a program is infected)

NONE of these files contain a virus! | | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | There are 4 download mirrors. The first two contain a zip file that after installation has an exe named aimp_classic_2.0.7.1_beta.exe or so. The 3rd and 4th download links offer a file named aimp_full.exe.
So now I really wonder what's the difference. Anyway, the first two links contain a file with a VIRUS INSIDE. Double-check with virustotal.com where you can upload the file and have it checked by several virus scanners. Strangewise the other two links do not contain a trojan - but also they are named totally different and differ also in size from the first two trojan-infected files.
It seems those Russan developers spread trojan software for whatever reasons. On their webpage itself you can also only download a virus-infected version.
So DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS !!! |
