I tried a few front-ends for MPlayer, and this one was easily the best. The icing on the cake is that MuldeR's installer integrates the very latest mplayer release, his own GUI, and the latest codecs for mplayer's use only (meaning no conflicts with your other codecs). Of course, there are many, many mplayer options that MuldeR could add to the GUI, but he's done a professional-quality job with the basics. The best currently available. And he's done it for free. So, a tip of the hat to you, MuldeR. Thank you.
These reviews should be only for the GUI, the visual interface. Not for the underlying video player, which is a different project by other people. MuldeR is giving us an easy way to interact with the player, which is by default a command-line-only application. He has no control over what features the player does or doesn't have. |

6.0 - Super Fantastic!!
There are really only a handful choices for CONSISTENT, RELIABLE media playback:
- MuldeR's flavor of the month (this one)
-- the latest STABLE player core, front-ends, and codecs
- roll your own ffdshow and MediaPlayerCLASSIC
-- this requires time, knowledge, and skill
- CCCP-project.net
-- the vast anime loving hordes making life easy
- VLC
-- some annoyances
- only the ignorant and foolish use the OS bundled WindowsMediaPlayer
because this, like most of the above options, are built upon some flavor of ffdshow the output options are ALL under your control! Dark scnese? boost opacity and gamma to YOUR preference. Save as many output schemes as you please for those ahem TV xvids you have, or your DVD vobs, to your SVCDs, or God forsaken 'Real'media files.
Thanks MuldeR! |

WOW!
Rated a 3.9 out of 4 with quite a few votes? This must be the best media player in the world! I have to download it!
And so I did. And used it.
It is a good player. It played stuff. It didn't crash. So far, so good.
But a 3.9? For 3.9 I want some features. Heck, I want a lot of features! I also want library management and a great playlist. I want easy control over brightness, contrast, and my filters, plus I want post-processing support.
I got the last requirement, it'll do post-processing. I didn't get the others. Oh, it has a playlist, but it won't tell you information on the files in the list, like duration. Even WMP has that.
So MPlayer is quite a good player. It is not a 3.9 good player. |
