| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | I forgot to mention two other nice options in TS:
- show percentages instead of sizes
- show allocated bytes (real size, including wasted bytes due to filesystem cluster size) |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Well, it depends on what you ask from the program, I think.
I, for one, love the fact that TS starts scanning right-away, as I'm always running it from the explorer right-click menu and I *want* it to start scanning immediately.
The color indications are very useful, as is the fact that it intelligently scales the size (KB, MB, GB).
Regarding the way TS treats files (by grouping them into a tree-item with the name [Files]) is ok, imho, although I would really want it to show some of the largest files separately from the [Files] node. |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Its a nice program that provides a nice windows XP look and feel.
I just think other softwares out there do it better.
Since Im hard pressed to just review this software straight up, ill compare it to a couple of porgrams that i think do the job a bit better.
DiskTecttive (DT) and SequoiaView (SV)
TreeSize (TS) provides a better interface that the two of these combined just because of the fact that DT and SV havent been updated for such a long time.
DT probably provides the most useful information when it comes to folders. DT provides pie charts and accurate percentages showing you which drivers on the hard disk are taking up the most space. SV does folders as well as files...I just think that on a folder basis, DT is better. TS provides you with the tree view of folders on your drive and just gives them a color in a separate column (green yelllow or red) based on how much space they take up.
SV handles files in folders best. Itll shows you nice boxes that are sized differently based on file size. It makes for easy findings with those files that are big and hogs on the drive. DT provides little to know help with identifying individual files...i think its all Folders. TS is only folders as well.
Feature wise, DT beats SV and TS. SV and TS are a one scan basis. Scan once and you have your data. Scan twice and you lose the previous data. DT its not like that...scan once, it makes a data file in a menu. Scan twice, it makes a second data file in a menu...both are clickable, both are viewable, both are savable.
All of them are easy to use. I just wish that SV and TS didnt automatically scan the second i open each software. DT at least doesnt scan and waits for me to hit the scan button.
All of them have great value for showing you were your space is being used on your disk...i think though that SV and DT have a little more value since they get the job done better.
Overall...4/5 since i think SV and DT do the job better. |
