| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | I am not of the computer generation, a non-techie, so I preface my comments with a "use at your own risk" caveat. With that out of the way, AutoPatcher for Win98SE completely rejuvenates my computing experience. I have a P3 600, 256 megs, ATI Radeon 7000 32 meg, ultra lite cable internet computer + I have a genuine comfort zone with 98SE, which accomplishes what I require in computing. After the default installation of AP, my "non-techie" perception is that my computer, that 98SE has never run better. Soporific, the creator of AP works tirelessly to continually update this software, the forum for the project is always helpful as well. As long as AP exists, I will continue to use Win98SE with pleasure. |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | This is a fantastic tool for those of us keeping Windows 98 alive and running. I couldn't recommend it more.
I have to take away points for the lack of a GUI. The settings are handled within the batch program, which is annoying, but not unfamiliar to those of us from the DOS days. And I figure most users of Win98SE are, like me, experienced users wanting to keep using the fastest, most stable version Windows rather than the latest, flashiest, and buggiest thing. So, since this is aimed at experienced users, the lack of a GUI isn't a critical flaw.
The lack of documentation and instructions is more of a critical flaw. I needed this for a clean install of Windows 98SE, and there was almost no info for that. It took some research on several sites, reading the complaints and compliments of prior users, to fully understand how and when to use this program.
But, after some time and study, I've used this program with complete satisfaction. I don't think I've had a better, more stable 98 install. Akmost all the default add-ons were a welcome addition as well.
I'd like to thank programmer for all the time and effort taken in the creation of this infinitely useful updater. |
