| 7-Zip 4.58 Alpha 8 / 4.47 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | This archiver is simply superb! It's not that useful as WinRAR (for example it doe NOT support drag'n'drop onto archive in Windows Explorer) but it's free and sometimes can strip off large amount of bytes especially when used for PDF files. If you have a set of PDF documents (especially some scanned pages) 7-Zip has the best compression ratio to time value! I can't believe Igor is keeping it free for all these years! |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | Clean and simple. Has an easy interface that doesn't intimidate the user. Rate 9 out of 10 overall. Could charge a 10 spot and still be a bargain. |

| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | I really like 7-zip! The price is right, it is easy to use, the interface is intuitive, and right clicking gives a comprehensive menu of things you can do. It zips, in can encrypt, it can split archives as it creates them or even post creation. |

| 7-Zip 4.58 Alpha 3 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | I am a former Izarc user and after format my HDD, I decided to give 7Zip a try - I have done so some two years ago but kept Izarc.
Well today and having nothing against Izarc, I found that I do not need the extra file types Izarc does offer, but I found that in terms of speed, compression ratio ( interesting, Izarc acomplishes the same ration on 7z format in maximal mode, as 7zip acomplishes that in normal mode.)
Also, I find the interface much more intuitive and logical in 7Zip and it is, besides an excellent compression machine, a good explorer.
The only glitch is that could have a better appearance - but who cares when it works so well - and to support - or have plugin's - for compressing other file types, as cab. , etc.
Nice piece of software |

| 7-Zip 4.45 Alpha 2 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | Excellent program. I have to give only a "Fair" Overall Rating because there are too many errors in multi-part RAR archives. It seems that 20% of them are reported as "broken", and WInRAR extracts them fine. This has been reported to the developer many times, and he ignores it.
Also, a file can not be edited "inside" the archive as they can in the other popular archive programs. This is a major annoyance.
Still, 7-Zip is a great program, and I have hopes it will be brought up to par with the competition. |

| 7-Zip 4.42 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | It just works every time. For freeware archivers it comes down to this and izarc. The others have potential and look good but are all buggy it seems. The only thing izarc does that this does not is editing files in an archive, really just temp directory, but it does it all automatically. Shell extension is very good. Also, wish it did ace. |

| 7-Zip 4.31 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | Excellent archiver. I hope 4.34 fixes some of the false "broken archive" warnings. So far, so good. |

| 7-Zip 4.30 alpha 5 |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | 7-Zip is very compact fast, and has most of the features needed for common archive functions. However, I have been using IZArc, and badly miss the support for the various ISO's. I also miss the "Checkout" button found in IZArc and WinZip. I would like to see portablility so it could be run from a USB flash drive. That's about it. Otherwise, 7-Zip is a nearly perfect archive program. |

| 7-Zip 4.27 beta |
| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | It has a nice GUI. The icons appear to be like 10 years old...lol...8 bit color or something. Needs some updating.
Its easy to use as well.
The only negatives is that I can get everything from this software in other zip programs.
The program can create BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and its flagship filetype, 7-Zip.
Any computer should know that windows provides the ability to do Zip files...but that aside...
For all you WinRAR lovers (like me), WinRAR can only create ZIP and RAR. Its not a big deal since not too many people use anything outside of those two filetypes anyway.
But if you look no further than TUGZip you will see a superior program which should be a threat to WinRAR and the likes.
TUGZip supports a BOATLOAD of filetypes for reading and extraction...
TUGZip can do what 7-Zip does, and more...besides being able to support the reading and creation of 7-zip files.
Anyway.
Its a great program, but the little things like the old looking interface and the limited choices in the context menu make this a 2nd rate product.
Its also needs support for a lot more filetypes, something TUGZip provides. |
