| GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | WinAce is a nice program...
it has a proprietary format, and from what I know WinACE is the only program that can create it...that being ACE files.
The ACE file is marginally better than RAR...and is a lot better than ZIP.
The problem is most people have just windows XP and nothing else...meaning they can read and extract ZIP files...but thats it.
If they want to read ACE files they need the likes of WInRAR, TUGZip, or of course WinACE.
But because most people know that the majority of users dont know about WinACE, TUGZip or WinRAR (or any other specialized compression program that supports WinACE), and besides the fact that WinRAR is more widely accepted by the advanced computer user community, that just leaves the other parts of WinACE worthwhile...
That being the ability to read and write zip files...
read and write tar...read and write gzip, bzip, etc. etc. etc.
If you want that you can get WinZIP or WinRAR...both of which do those actions much better than WinACE. Both of which are more widely used in the computer world.
If you like to trade files with someone who has WinRAR or WinACE...or TUGZip or something similar that supports ACE, then WinACE might be worthwhile since, as i said, ACE is marginally better for compression over RAR, which conserves bandwidth.
Otherwise, stick with something like WinRAR, WinZIP, TUGZip...7-zip... |
