| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | This program does a very good job at decrypting and ripping DVDs, and compresses the video to fit a single DVD-R or DVD+RW disk in a way that maximizes the quality of the resulting video.
For me, DVD Shrink outperformed DVD-Decrypter, DVD-Fab5-Decrypter, and DVDXClone in terms of product quality.
DVD Shrink has 2 or maybe 3 novel features:
1. Modify the start and end frames -- You can skip unwanted frames at the start and end of the movie. Do you really want to have the movie studio\'s logo, or the opening credits? The more frames you skip, the better a video will fit onto a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk.
2. Deep Analysis - I\'m not sure if this is a feature, but DVD Shrink claims to be able to get better information from a second, longer pass (rip) of the DVD. So, you can get a quick rip, or a longer, better rip.
3. In Backup mode, there is a \"quality setting\" that will auto-correct for artifacts. Artifacts occur whenever you compress a video. DVD Shrink claims to prevent artifacts from spreading to later frames, plus gives you a choice of whether to maximize smoothness or sharpness, or pick somewhere in between. I can\'t verify that, but neither can I complain with the results.
One plus is that DVD Shrink doesn\'t require that you run some other program in the background in order to decrypt as you rip. It deals with region codes and encryption schemes for you. You can leave region codes as is, if you want, or even add new ones, but the default is to make your DVD region free.
The weakness of DVD Shrink is clearly the interface, and it could really use an update, but it\'s my choice for now.
My best results have been to shrink to an ISO, removing the languages I don\'t want and director\'s comments, as well as some of the opening/closing frames, and then burn with ImgBurn.
One final note: Don\'t use products like these to steal. Why give away your integrity, especially for something as frivolous and cheap as a DVD, but really for anything? |

Works brilliant with AnyDVD, and I have used it on over 600 DVDs, most recent ones and never had any issues, even with Episodic DVD series.
Enabling the Quality Options / 2nd Pass Analysis improves the quality of the recoding, but takes 2-3 times as long to complete, but is well worth it for action movies / movies with dark scenes etc.
Handy feature is is leaves the recoded files behind on yer hard disk, unlike Nero Recode that wipes them after copying etc. Useful if ya wanna process further into XViD for a home Media Svr etc
Overall highly commended, and freeware. |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | read some of the revues,i was glad to see the 2008 shrink,i downloaded it because nero was having trouble recoding Mad Money,couldnt figure it out so i had nothing to loose with trying shrink, with great success!
i have always used dvdfab and fab hd,with great success,i only use recode or shrink to compress,and put things in order and burn through nero.
hope this helps anyone with any questions

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | i dont know about a free version i purchased mine, it seems that the free ones never last, this does have some issues reading sony or disney movies, ehcich sucks cause you have to download or uy another program, i am trying dvdfab as a back up program, it would be nice to see dvd shrink catch up with teh rest of the programs out there that arnt having issues with security features, these guys are weak if you ask me, don\'t like it prove me wrong and update the software |

| | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value: | | | Excellent piece of software...as for the cyclic redundancy errors--I only get those with the newer, non-CSS encryptions...mostly used by Disney and Sony, from what I can tell...To break through that encryption, you can try AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2....one decrypts and the other clones ...they have a full demo on the website...slysoft.com, I believe. I have been able to use DVD Shrink for most of my older DVD's however. |

Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). and iiput into google and it said its a new security thing on new dvds that dvd srhink cant fix because there is no new updated version of dvd shrink so i had to download another freeware program for the ones dvd shrink cant do |
