I guess my experience with Mo-Search is over now. Prematurely, I guess.
The first hint of trouble, but not a killer, was when installed as the last stage of installation it searched my hard-disks to index my files. It never asked if it could or should, it just went ahead and did it. All 1.7TB. To its credit, it overestimated the amount of time it would take by a couple of hours, so it finished a little early. So the installation took about 4 hours. Longer than most programs, but about the same as a NetWare 2.2 File Server from the good old days (you remember 360KB floppies, right?).
So decided to use it. I figured, like most programs that index your files, after foolin' around for 4 hours it would be a breeze to locate stuff. I searched for a type of file and entered a partial file-name.
The search function built into Windows with indexing turned off works faster than this thing. So I'll be pulling the plug before I get my results. I guess that makes this review a little premature.
But how many people have nearly a full day to waste on something like this? Computers are supposed to ehnance productivity by processing data. Neither has occured here. |
