I don't quite know how to categorize this program. Is it useful or not? Is it safe, or not?
The program has a few useful functions, but the rest are questionable. It claims to protect and speed up your computer, but how? No thank you, I can't allow software to make system changes without telling me what they are. I don't want a program to remove important login information for my frequently visited web sites. When you launch it, it starts doing things without even setting up options! What is it doing? When it removes a "spyware", what is it, really? I want to know what it is removing before allowing it to do so.
If you're a computer novice having problems, and have nothing to lose, this program could possibly help you. If you half way know what you're doing, I strongly advise against turning thisprogram loose on your system. |

Fast, Simple, Effective- Just as promised
Pros: This product is really great. The 1.8 version fixes and optimizes but the Version 2 (which is still in beta testing and should be released in August 2006) is even better. It allows the user to see what is exactly is being changed- it tells you the exact registry key and to what value it is changed to and as for obsolete windows services it turns off, it gives a description of those as well. Also included is a spyware scan, junk file scan, registry scan, system analysis (optimization scan), and a start up scan that tells you what programs you have in your start up folder that you might not need and tells you if they are good or bad.
Also included are the options for what type of internet connection you have so that it can be optimized. In the paid version, there is also an auto care setting and automatic updates. The pro and personal editions are basically the same functionality wise (in version 2 that is). And besides a connection type selecter, there is also a computer type selection for whether you use your PC for daily use, entertainment, top performance, computing, as a server, business, or general if you don't know and explanations for each option are given to help you decide.
Not to mention, there is a defrag utility called SmartDefrag that I am not sure whether it is included in the free edition yet but it has more options and is more effective than the default MS defragmenter.
Basically, this program is easy to use and great for novice PC users that want to speed up their computer without reading a guide to doing so. There is support if you need it too. Basically, I recommend this for everyone who is looking for a quick boost in PC performance and to fix system configurations and invalid/obsolete registry keys. And it does this all in literally about 30 seconds or less. There is also an undo function in it to protect your system. You really have nothing to lose by trying this program. Remember, it's free- so give it a try.
Cons: The only thing that is not so perfect about this program is that the Spyware scan is minimal and it does not offer real time protection, however, there is a list of known bad sites that are blocked by the security check up feature of this program (much like SpywareBlaster does.) |
