I don't know if anyone else has noticed that Demon tools lite is incapable of emulating New protection which games are adapting now. the most common is "securom". has anyone tried to make images with demon tool lite......It fails to emulate the protection N the game asks for the original disc. i tried with my original games that i have purchased like 'crysis" "Command & Conquer 3" Superme commanders" & it just failed..........Only the paid version can make Copy's of protected game.........

Used this tool for years without problem. All of a sudden they are telling you in order to install the latest version you must UNINSTALL whatever security software you have. Including firewall, antivirus and other programs. How ridiculous!!! What is surprising is that so many folks are following that recommendation. Until folks start using another product the developers will continue with this arrogance instead of fixing their programs.

best image loader on the market. Just be careful when installing it: uncheck all the adware/spyware it offers to install by default.

I really don't understand why there are so many reviews full of complaints!! True, there is an option to install a toolbar...so unless you're illiterate, just READ THE INSTRUCTIONS during installation and un-check the box. True, it doesn't have a ton of features like "system integration," but what do you expect from a free, LITE version?? That's why there's an option to purchase the PRO version, which will have more bells 'n' whistles! True, Softpedia has listed a price for this software, but it's probably just to let people know that there is a version out there that you can purchase if you want.

There really is no need to get so anal about a great program that you're getting FOR FREE!!! Just thank the developers, and support them monetarily if you can.

    ...and now for the review:

This program is excellent, and I highly recommend it. :)

As already stated, there are two versions - Lite being the free, adware one. Therefore the tag 'shareware' is incorrect and only serves to misguide potential new users. Do correct this, oh Softpedia.

Ok, guess I had one more in me, and sorry for double posting...

There IS a Pro version of DAEMON Tools, which is available from the purchase site to which Softpedia's purchase link re-directs. It should therefore be listed not as Home but Pro in this listing, and perhaps a separate listing for the freeware version.

Nevertheless, I'm still vacating this site and removing all shortcuts and RSS feeds. I still can't abide by Softpedia's offerings of malicious tools and progs. I recommend other responsible users do the same.

First Off, THERE IS NO "HOME EDITION" OF DAEMON TOOLS! There is no shareware version. It's still freeware, as can be seen on the DAEMON Tools home sight. Why in the hell would you list it as shareware, and name a price? Trying to cash in on user ignorance?

Anyway, I've given DAEMON all Excellent ratings, except overall... Reason being is the recent addition of the toolbar, which is in fact a form of adware. Granted, I know they're just trying to pay the bills, but still... However, jkloosterman's review neglects to mention that the toolbar is OPTIONAL. Had jk taken the time to read the install options and uncheck the toolbar option checkbox, he'd have saved himself the headaches he's blaming on the software - instead of an irresponsible "Next-Next-Done" install. The author also accepts donations, accessible via the software's Right-Click>Help interface. I recommend not opting in for the toolbar, but instead supporting the software via donation.

By the way, this will be my last review on (and visit to Softpedia). Over the past year, I've seen an increasing number of malware popping up on their site for download. By malware, I mean exploitive software like keyloggers and Yahoo chat exploits and password crackers. These types of softwares contribute ot malicious user activity that I will not support.

I recommend MajorGeeks, FileHippo, and FileForum as clean and responsible alternatives.

    Piss off, Softpedia.

I have been using Deamon Tools for a couple of years and I really like the program. Not only because it was free, but mostly for its easy of use. Yesterday I upgraded to version 4.03. When installing I noticed it contains spyware. Today my system froze a couple of time due to d347bus error. Searching the internet I understand that this may also be due to this new version of Deamon tools. So my recommendations is: NEVER USE THIS! If the makers of Deamon Tools like to dwell on the dark side on Internet, I do not want to be part of their kingdom of darkness.

Almost perfect , somehow it lacks of system integration, and to get some we need to get an extra plugin.
    But the feautures... wow perfect!

Im not sure why the Buy Now button is there...because the software is 100% free...probably for personal use...who knows.

This software is completely unique. Its a piece of sftware that will install virtual cdrom drives in which you can mount CD images as CDROM's. Sure a lot of CD Burning software like Alcohol 120% has the abilities like Virtual Daemon does, but if you dont want those programs what then? Daemon tools is a standalone product...and did i mention its free?

It sits in your system tray, and boots on startup. When you want to load up an image, just right click the icon, and with a few menu clicks and a little folder browsing to file your image you have your image working as if its an actual burned image in a physical drive.

I think the maximum number of drives you can set is 4...but dont quote me. Ive never needed more than one drive so i never really cared to find out the maximum.

Whats great is that if you have a CD image you were thinking about burning, you dont have to burn it with this software.
You want to test out the image? try it in daemon tools first.
Dont want to risk a bad burn? just run it in daemon tools instead.
Have the hard drive space to keep an image for a long period of time? Daemon tools wil put that image to good use.

I have found that many CD's i burn go bad fast. So i keep a lot of CD images on my hard drive...mainly ones i ripped off of cd's i own. All i do when i want them is to load em up in Daemon tools.

Whats nice about the software is that it supports so many different image formats...
.ISO, .CIF, .IMG, .BIN/.CUE, .IMG/.CCD, .NRJ, etc...the list goes on and on.
It doesnt support the Mac proprietary format, .DMG, id like to note.

Whats really fun though is that if you have Mac DMG files...go get youself a copy of the free software PearPC, go ask a friend who bought Mac OSX to lend it to you. Rip the images to ISO files (since PearPC only accepts ISO files). Install Mac OSX into PearPC. Then get yourself the software MacDrive. PearPC writes all information to a big IMG file, which is mountable by Daemon tools, you just need software to read Mac formatted drives to make any value of it. Once you get MacDrive and you can read the drive, just copy the DMG files into the folder that is the local desktop. Reload PearPC, and convert the DMG's into ISO's using the commandline app (which comes with OSX) called hdiutil. Quit PearPC, remount the PearPC IMG file and get the ISO's out. At this point you can burn those images. It was really neat.

Unfortunately I decided to get Alcohol 120% for myself. And since it comes with its own virtual drive software I didnt see the need to keep two virtual drive softwares on the machine...so i uninstalled Daemon tools.

But I still highly recommend it and its completely worth of 5/5 ratings in all categories.
