Duplicate Music Files Finder 1.6 is an excellent utility for removing duplicate music files (mp3/4, wma, ogg, etc). The GUI is pretty much self-explanatory but there are some functions that require some above average user experience. There is no vertical scroll bar for the search returns; you need to position your mouse on the lower part of duplicate files list and "drag" the list down to view all the dupe files; the explanation is more complicated than the actual function. Also, there are 2 "Check/Select" buttons on either side of the GUI under the dupe file list; the left side button is for selecting the original files and the right side button is for the dupe files. If you mistakenly select the wrong file list, like I did, it's best to clear the search results and search again, this time selecting the proper files to remove. The files can be directly deleted or moved to the Recycle Bin; I'd suggest the latter option. The program is fast scanning 19GB of files in about 3 minutes. XP Pro running a 1.4GHz AMD chip. Bottom line, If you cast a "wide net" when you download music files, you need this dupe file remover. |
