BUT ... VISTA users should abandon this app. It waas designed in 2001, before the designer could have had any info on the new file layout for Vista, and it worked beautifully for Win98, 2000, and XP, but it can't find its way around Vista. Documents and Settings is history, and that folder (and Program Files, but that's not important for ETF 283) is just a JUNCTION for pre-Vista installation programs to use. If you try the Find Tmp Files function of ETF 283, you'll see that it gets caught in a loop, going to deeper and deeper levels of Application Data until it gets to China, and you'll have to stop it with Task Manager.
Better solution for Vista: Forget about the tmp files that are not in the two main Temp folders, write one-line batch files to get rid of the tmps in each of the two main Temp folders (C:\Windows\Temp, C:\Users\Username\App Data\Local;\Microsoft\Windows\Temp), and to empty the two active Temporaray Internet Files folders (in Local Settings and in AppData\Local\Microsoft Windows), and set and use CCleaner to get rid of the index.dat files in those TIFs folders periodically.
ETF 283 gets lost looking for things that aren't there anymore when you try to use it on Vista, and it hunts in junctions that aren't active folders for things to delete. |
