Ever since I became a Facebook "addict" a few months back, I hardly used IE (v6) anymore. It crashed a lot on these pages so I made Max (Classic 1.6.5.18) my fav for viewing this Site, read mail--Yahoo/GMail, and for other 'heavy' Websites. Once in a while I'd use FF--which is great for Sites like these, but slows my pc down to a crawl--especially after an hour or so of intensive blogging and/or composing/sending/receiving mail.
Using Max--which relies on IE's (6) engine, didn't show me all the Features on these Website pages--which I didn't even know existed until FF 'opend my eyes' to them. Facebook kept telling me to switch to/install IE8 or GChrome each time I logged on :[
It was then I knew I finally needed to make a (world shaking) decision to get this latest version.
For many years now (after IE6), I frequently installed and uninstalled IE7--always returning to v6.
IE8 is what I've decided to remain with for good..though I feel like a traitor to IE6 who's been a true-blue buddy & pal to me since like forever.
Using this version has returned 'pure pleasure' to my once frustrating (understatement) Internet experience. Web pages are now showing 'what they should' and what's more, it's also enhanced Max :] along with my other IE-based Browsers!
Not to say that IE8 doesn't have its downside--it's already crashed on me 2x since I installed it just 24 hours ago, it's slow to start, doesn't do as I say (to open pages in a new Tab--ALWAYS), and is kinda sluggish on my machine, BUT, what's a body gonna do (unless I become another Bill-Gates-boy-genius and create a better Browser..this little old lady doesn't think she's up to the task)
Whatever the issues encountered with IE8, they're all well worth it to me.
Why? Simply because Max is now 'endowed' with a better engine so that together we sail along smoothly, happily, AND faster across the World Wide Web!
If you have an alternate IE-based browser and want to make it work even better, download and install IE8 now!
. . . .
Thank you Microsoft!
You've made this old lady a joyous & contented User, PLUS, you've made Max's day !! :P |

tried IE8 Beta yesterday when Microsoft Downloads emailed its availability. I thought it was pretty good, except glitch with cursor, then today IE8 Beta fell apart.
Address bar would not go to 3/4 of stored favorites, only giving me image from this computers history files, in other words, not connecting, just using saved image. So I tried to uniinstall, NOT possible, its on c drive so all partitions became corrupted, you can go to c drive thru computer on start menu, & find IE8 Beta in non public folder, not where I expected it, it takes bit of exploringto find it away from Windows folders & it does go away, yet nuances are enough to prevent reloading IE7?, if its possible for Vista from microsoft at all, it is on your disc, you already have it is microsofts reply from ie7 download site.No one can retrieve second IE7 image from microsoft.
So I downloaded SEAMONKEY & ithas improved tremendusly in few years time as with firefox Beta, I should of had back up to begin with as it turns out. yet slow corruption saved enough of IE 8 beta to get back up with SEAMONKEY & FIREFOX while fighting IE8 Beta.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND IE8 Beta , WAIT FOR IE8.
