This is one of the best media players out there. It's not only simple and unbloated, I've noticed a distinct improvement on the video rendering. Videos that are terribly pixellated when played with other video players look much smoother on MPC. It plays DVDs great and also handles most file formats without a hiccup. No spyware and it doesn't try to take over your computer either, unlike, say, WMP which tries to send anonymous data to MS even when you disable sending usage stats and automatically claims all file associations.

It's been a long time since I've seen a Windows program that you just click and run - no installation!
I just downloaded the zip file, extracted the executable, clicked on it and there I was, ready to play a DVD.
It's not extremely fancy, but then again, for the price ($0), it's pretty difficult to complain about it.Highly recommended!

I needed a simple solution for playing .VOB files that I have copied straight from DVD to hard drive. This programme will run all media files, works very well in Vista. Great compliment to WMP (which does not play all formats).

This player is nothing short of excellent. Its small lighweight and will play anything you throw at it with the help of a codec pack. The person who wrote the information about this software got it wrong. Media Player Classic (MPC) is a standalone DVD player with low resource requirements and excellent picture quality. It contains built-in MPEG2, AC3 and DTS codecs so doesnt need WinDVD and PowerDVD to be installed. For this reason alone it gets 5/5 as its the only FREE player that will play DVD and hard drive DVD files. Try it I bet you will never use another medai player!

They copied Windows Media Player 6.4 very well with this FREEWARE media player. But it has no value.
Every Windows user has Windows Media Player 6.4 on their systems.

Just do the following...it works on XP for certain....im pretty sure itll also work on 2000.
start -> run -> mplayer2
And you have Windows Media Player 6.4.0.09.1130 up and running. Since you have this, whats the point of having Windows Media Player Classic?

Maybe to work with the Real and Quicktime alternative codecs?
Nope...they also work with Windows Media Player 10,9,8,7 and even 6.4. Even though those softwares come bundled with Windows Media Player Classic already, if you choose not to install it the codecs will still work. Hell, the K-Lite codec package has JUST the codecs...so...

The clone looks exactly the same...5/5 on the GUI.
Features...im used to Windows Media Player controls and such. They got a little innovative with the features and i cant get used to it...4/5.
Its easy to use...just liek all official versions of Windows Media Player...5/5.
Value...you already have Windows Media Player 6.4, FOR FREE...you dont need another copy...3/5
Overall...4/5. Good idea of continuing pseudo-development of a dead media player (i say pseudo, because do they REALLY have the original Microsoft code for Windows Media Player 6.4? or was this built from the ground up and made to look like Windows Media Player 6.4? I choose the latter...)
