Wow...this program will definitely make your reconsider storing your password in a messaging program on a public computer...
Im sure most of you don't if I were to ask you straightup, but if you ever THOUGHT about it this will make you never do it again.
Whats amazing is that the download is only 47KB while the program itself is 42KB.
All it does is search your computer for IM programs it supports finding passwords from, which is in the list provided in the readme, or here on Softpedia. If it finds a supported program it is shown in the program window in a list, with the login and password it finds on the machine.
Again, though, this program can't find out the password if it isn't stored locally. It only can find passwords which the user has CHOSEN to store to avoid having to enter it in every time he/she logs in.
I use YIM and AIM 5.9, and I HAVE used MSN Messenger; I uninstalled it a little while ago...mind I note I was using Windows Live Messenger (8.X), not 7.5
It found my YIM login/pass no problems.
Even though I uninstalled MSN it still found my password which I chose to store on my machine when I was using it.
It didn't find my AIM password, or even detect AIM was installed. This is because AIM 5.0 and later versions store passes with a lot of security and are ridiculously hard to decrypt; The MessenPass developer notes this in the program notes. Im pretty sure the first password-secure version is AIM 5.0. I think it will find your password from AIM 4.X if you still use that very old version.
For a 42KB program it has a very nice interface, by the way.
The only real negatives is that Google Talk isn't supported and AIM 5.0 and later isn't supported.
Its free, it supports GAIM, Trillian and Miranda, and its another great tool for all you casual hackers. |
