Out of the box the program offers some nice little reporting and monitoring screens but the real reason for using it is to perform various obscure tweaks that are hardcore and beyond.
My requirements were for a kind of Cool'nQuiet on steroids that would eneble me to dynamically alter the clock speed of my AMD X2 4200 and this utility seemed to fit the bill exactly.
I'm a user of SpeedFan/RivaTuner/ATITool so understand the basics of dynamic fan and clock control, but I have no idea what half the options are for in RMCLock. However without much effort (and with the aid of the guide at http://winhlp.com/rmclock.htmI) I was able to set up this excellent little utility so that my AMD X2 4200 will move smoothly from an undervolted, underclocked 1900MHz idle right up to full power @2800MHz automatically when it detects the system is loaded.
So now I can have the PC fans on a slow idle while I browse the web in smug eco-hippy mode and only have to endure the full-on turbo-nutter, windtunnel of doom effect when I'm actually playing games. |
