Spybot has great detection and cleaning, but overall is an awful program. The GUI is horrible, and all but impossible for the average person to use comfortably. Even worse, it's a horrible resource hog. It can bring a world class PC to its knees with RAM and CPU hungry features. Used it for years, the latest major release made me turn elsewhere. Too bad they made it into such a pig of a program.

Its a really nice new version. I like the easy new user interface that looks really good. All the additionally tools (scanning for rootkits, manage autoruns, integrated automatically update feature and so on) are well done. I am looking forward for the official release soon

spybot is the best product antispyware on the market, does what says and more with avanced mode thanks a lot it should be in all the pcs by default

I'm very impressed with all of what it has to offer for free. when you change it from basic mode to advance mode a whole other set of tools become available.

It has tools for managing your start up programs, checks for registry mistakes, and so much more. But the advance mode is meant for people who know what they are doing.

I also love the passive protection it gives after immunization i almost never have malicious programs at all.

And the best part of the whole thing is it is all for free.

Review: The passive protection it provides is good enough to install Spybot just to give you that. That's all I even use Spybot for. I update the program, re-initalize its Immunization feature for Internet Explorer, and leave it off. People ask me why I don't use Firefox or Opera or some stuff. Because its all crap to me, you can only get infected by what you do, and besides I like Internet Explorer. I have stuck by it for years, used the most simplest of programs to protect me, and I haven't been infected by not even one threat. And believe me I go to a lot of websites.
-Anyways my review didn't really provide much, but this software is so great just for its utilities I don't even use its excellent-rated malware scanner.

I just bought a 3year VIP membership in Spybot 2009 (US$35.01) and am trying to download it. Spybot should make their download pages MUCH less complex and confusing. There are numerous sections/offers with download buttons. I have no idea if I clicked on the correct download button.

I suppose over time I'll learn if I have a Spybot program on my computer, and if it works. If I don't, what do I do about it?

With somewhat limited internet activity I can give Spybot only the best marks of excellence in all categories, being either the best or one of the best in it\'s field. I have been using it for years now and hope you will keep presenting it to us users in its free form.

a very good software. It works nicely and it is not difficult to use. Just to give an example I found a smitfraud-c file scanning with this programme that no other anti-spyware toold had located. I think it is one of the best frewares.

This is neither a review nor an opinion, but a query: before I upgraded to the latest SpyBot S&D about a month or so ago, I always found a lot of threats of one sort or another, but when I upgraded to 1.5.2.20, the program suddenly ceased to find so much as a single anything! How can this be???! Every time I run the program, it returns (after the usual running time) the message: "Congratulations, blah-blah-blah", to the effect that there were no threats found. Weird! What gives? Anybody else have this happen?

I usually run the two resident programs (Tea Timer and Egg Timer, or whatever they are called), but I have run these always. Could it be that my McAfee antivirus program, which also does some adware and malware checking, and which is on the lookout for malicious programs checking this 'n that, has blocked the new version of SpyBot?

It's a very nice programme. However, please be aware that if you select Global(Hosts) for Immunization your system may dramatically slow down (services.exe goes up to 99% CPU). You have to return to the original host file to solve the problem.

The GUI is not perfect and therefore not the ease of use. There are some features that are not realy needed but still they are small and do not intefere much. It does not seem to find everything by itself, use together with Ad-Aware.

Spybot is one of the best Spyware Beating tool out there. Using the less resources possible and with a fasy scanning system you cam make sure your system will stay protected from all the malware pesky files out there.

With the imunization system and their integration with Spywareblaster you can also rest knowing that ActiveX spyware are not that much a threat any more!

It would be nice if we could see some work on the GUI System however.

Please make the newest version of Spybot-Search&Destroy 1.4 (Release Candidate) available.

The GUI is subpar when compared to the likes of programs like Windows AntiSpyware.

Its just another spyware scanner/remover, though, MINUS the nice features of programs such as Ad-Aware and Windows Antispyware...like plugins, or real time monitors and such. SO a little lackluster on the features.

Its PRETTY easy to use...but the first time i ever used it i was completely turned off by the GUI and didnt venture to spend 1 minue learning the GUI.

Value...its free, everyone in the world knows its name and uses it. And it removes spyware/adware. Tons of value.


Great program...needs a better GUI and some real time active monitoring.

I hate it when software is perpetually in a "beta" state, especially when it works as well as this package does.

But, I suppose we can grant some freeware authors a little lattitude when their contribution to the body of freeware titles is so generous, as is the case with Spybot S&D.

This application should be a staple with anyone concerned about spyware. Feature rich, stable, continuously updated, and rock solid, nobody should be without a copy that they use regularly.

don't download this version. Spybot developers would never put out any beta version.

When I first install any winDOwS operating system this program is not far behind as it locates "malware/spyware" before you even access the internet,imagine that?!?

It seems every newer version just keeps getting better even for those not in the know this program holds your hand to install & configure.

You just have to download it and run it to begin.
