Date: 17 Jun 2007, 05:25 GMT Overall rating: | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value:

Its pretty good. It comes with everything you expect a commercial antispyware program to give you...
-full spyware scan
-real-time shield
-send usage stats to the community
It comes with a nice interface, and a kernel level real-time shield, similar to HIPS products I guess.
The scan runs nicely. It runs pretty fast. I like that you can still use the program during a scan, but any menu you click pauses the scan...ewwww.
I really cant say much about its definitions, though. My computer is very clean and I cant find any information about the database in the program or on their website. I have seen other security programs at least put something somewhere which makes an indication about the size of the database.
The only thing I can say about it is that its 402KB.
The web help says there is, but I dont see it in the program. I havent tested it yet. It doesnt give you many options for the autoupdate, not even a time schedule.
The manual update is fair. It opens a separate Inno type setup file which checks for updates. Why is this not built into the program?
The program gives you a lot of other features which are similar to the ones found in Advanced Spyware Remover Pro, for example. BHO list, extensions list, toolbar list, running process list, startup list, services list and activex list. These arent just lists, by the way - you can remove items, and stop items in each list.
The realtime protection, live protection as they call it, gives you a lot of shields, but considering the state of other programs, a better layout would be suggested. They list all the shields in a scrollable menu...considering that their are 16 items, i think that a better presentation could be used.
The window itself is not resizable :(. Oh well...i really like that with my programs.
Its $30 per license, and works out to be cheaper if you buy multiple licenses. One license per computer...eh....
Considering how nice the program is, this could be like another GIANT AntiSpyware. A sweet interface and a lot of cool features all bundled into a nice looking program that costs $30 and gives you a 15day trial (it is interesting that Spinach is $30 and gives 15day trial and so did GIANT during its time). The program is not widely popular, and ends up getting bought by some big company to be developed into their antispyware solution.
Be alert Spinach AntiSpyware! You could be the next security software to be bought by Google or Yahoo! or something. |

It works...but it needs a lot of polishing.
First, I think this is great if you are one of those guys who is all about making their PC look and feel like a mac. What better way to emulate a mac than to have the browser which mac uses.
On the other hand, if you are a pro-Windows interface guy, you probably wont enjoy Safari since it is an exact clone of the MacOS product and currently has no way of changing its interface.
You will probably find that it doesnt really behave like a normal windows program, not that it should, since its Mac.
The settings window scrolls up and down as you change tabs...it doesnt seem to maintain a constant window size.
The only way to resize the Safari window is with the resize tool in the BOTTOM RIGHT corner of the window.
The status bar shows nothing from what I saw, giving me reason to just hide it.
When you view webpage source it opens in a proprietary Mac software, as opposed to Notepad or the sort.
I can go on and on with everything that is just not normal for windows software, but it really isnt worth it because you should know what you are getting when you download this (an apple-designed software title intended for Mac).
Yes, there is tabbing. I dont use it.
I havent found a page it cant handle yet.
It passes the Acid2 test, rendering the image perfectly(http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html#top), something which Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 2.0.0.3 fail to do properly (from my tests).
Dont know what else to bring up. It works well. It will take some time for software vendors to integrate Safari into their products. Until then, just enjoy it as a third browser-engine option in the internet world. |

It is a decent program. I look at it as SopCast's answer to Joost.
Considering that 80% of what is on Joost is stuff that you will never EVER watch, I think DSopCast trumps Joost.
Hey, it might be illegal to host movies and full seasons of tv shows, but that is what people want, not a bunch of a junky music videos from artists we have never heard of...sorry Joost.
If DSopCast gets shut down, so be it, but that will be a long way away since SopCast is based out of China.
It says you cant download the content, but that isnt entirely accurate.
The program uses RealPlayer as its built in media player, which might not be the preferred media player for most, but I like it more than MPC, VLC, KMPlayer, MPlayer, and Quicktime.
I like WMP more than Real, but sometimes I prefer Real.
The one thing I like about DSopCast is that DSopCast is not some flash based interface which only supercomputers can run. Joost requires a rather new computer for it to run :P.
I cant exactly say if DSopCast is actually P2P because all of the downloads come from the server and I really didnt notice any upload while watching...oh well, maybe there arent that many people watching the movies. |

It seems like a quality product, but it is hard to determine when one is using a rather clean testing computer and the website has no information of the database contents...and judging by the sub 400KB database size, it would seem the database is small. No idea though (1 entry may be 10KB, or it may be 1KB, or it may be 1B).
Overall, its a quick little program which focuses mainly on providing the user a complete set of real time shields. The alert windows remind me a lot of Kaspersky's, however sometimes I'm a little confused as to what it does. Sometimes I will run IE7 and Kaspersky wants to do one thing with the SearchURL, and WinCleaner wants to do something different. And these alerts never go away each time I run IE7. I suppose I could suppress WinCleaner's problem since I trust Kaspersky more, but I like to know what it is doing.
The Real Time Shield tab has a list of all the "File" shileds and the "Registry" shields. There are about 10-15 file shields. About half of them I know and recognize, the rest are files that I never knew existed...they could be for Windows 98 for all I know. I don't know. Then there are about 40 or so registry shields, this is mostly due to the fact that certain things it protects it does twice over (one for the HKLM key and one for the HKCU key).
If you are really advanced, you can disable individual shields to your hearts content. I dont want to say that Spyware Terminator or Windows Defender or whatever program is wrong in combining entries into a single option or whatever, just some people prefer to have all the shields separated.
One feature I really like (which I hope Spyware Terminator adopts) is the ability to scan in the background. You can start a scan and do whatever the hell you want. Change tabs and fool with the settings or minimize the program...not a problem. Compare this against a lot of programs which just lockdown the program while scanning.
The scan is pretty fast I suppose. Again, though, Im testing this product on a clean computer. The scan interface, like most new programs in the field, mimics the highly successful Ad-Aware.
The options are sort of limited I suppose. I guess that is expected for a new program. A handy link to the forums is provided in the program, which is nice. Interestingly, the WinCleaner RTS will ask you if you want to allow WinCleaner to access Internet Explorer. You'd think that the scanner would ignore itself. I guess that is a sign of a good product. Too bad no one uses the forums :P.
The orange interface is a complete turnoff, as it matches no popular Windows theme out there. Well, maybe it matches the Vista theme, but I don't have Vista to test (and I have my XP themes service disabled).
I suggest you give it a try to check out another free antispyware program with a real time shield. Don't come in having high hopes for the scanning engine, though :P. |

Ehhhh...its seems to be more about looks than performance, as is the case with all FBM software. Well...maybe not ZeroAntiSpyware, but who knows these days with antispyware software since a clean computer will turn up zero problems in all antispyware software; so ZeroAntispyware could have poor performance as well.
The first thing you will notice ith ZeroAds is the installer is a downloader. I hate installers which are a single 300KB file which downloads a set of install files from a remote server. I prefer the megabyte download of the full installer, PLEASE! At least there is Softpedia out there to do that for us.
Anyway, outside of the installer, the worst part of this program is that you HAVE to restart the PC to make it work. ARGH...in these days of Windows 2000/XP/Vista, all software should not require a reboot...well unless it has to write something to the WinSock layer or something *cough*. Thats the problem with this software. It isnt your typical ad-filtering software which is just a simple program which intercepts Internet Explorer connections. Rather it installs something similar to a WinSock layer...hell, maybe it is a Winsock layer. Who knows? All I know is that a reboot is required because it knocks out internet explorer browsing at the completion of the install. Rebooting fixed this, but I HATE REBOOTING.
As I said, this program is all about looks as opposed to performance.
You are first greeted with a very friendly window guiding you on how to OPEN AND CLOSE the program. How useful...NOT. Im not 3 years old. That guide gives no useful pointers, other than finding the close, minimize and open buttons for the program. Close that and lets move on...
The program is this annoying, space wasting blue bar which tracks all the ad/cookie removing. Instead of going for the mundane settings window like every other ad filtering program on the planet, they chose this blue bar. Hey, it works, dont get me wrong, but because of how poor the program works in removeding ADS it just seems they put too much emphasis on the interface of this program. I would prefer something ugly that works great (see: AdMuncher). Besides, all the settings for this program can be altered by right-clicking the system tray icon.
It seems like the blue bar is just a fancy thing to give you stats...worthless I tell ya. At least it tells me what it is and isn't doing. So far, after visiting maybe 10 pages, max, I have blocked 9 ads, 5252 cookies and 1 popup. OK, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt with the popup efficiency. I have my Internet Explorer 7 popup blocker on, so that is preventing ZeroAds from trying to remove popups. But I didnt download and try this program on its popup filtering ability. I wanted to see its ability to REMOVE ads, that is the name of the program right? "Zero" ads? So through these 10 or so websites, I have blocked 9 ads and over 5300 cookies? Whoa whoa whoa...5300 cookies? 5300?...repeat, 5300. 5300...FIFTY THREE HUNDRED? Are you SERIOUS? You are telling me that a couple sites, including Softpedia.com, mind you, and a help page for ZeroAds download 5300 cookies? What?
Give me a second here...I'm going to reset the counter and go thru my history of pages to see if there is a problem...
OK I guess it was a glitch somewhere...I cant seem to get up to 5300 cookies that fast. I am only at 16 cookies through like 20 webpages. Oh well.
AHHH I see what happened. I was just sitting here, typing this and the number just jumped from 16 to 20 then to 24...and it keeps going up. It must be scanning my cookies and deleting ones it thinks are bad...in the case of 5300, there must have been 5300 cookies I accumulated before using this program that it thought were bad. Well, thats a real pain in the ass. I dont want this program scanning my cookies and deleting ones it THINKS are bad. Sometimes I like my cookies to save passwords, as much of a security risk as it is. I would PREFER this program to BLOCK cookies rather than become an antispyware program and SCAN my already EXISITING cookies.
Oh well...now to the actual INTENDED PURPOSE of this program: the ad cleaning.
There doesnt seem to be anything wrong in the ad removal job, except that it only removes like 10% of advertisements on webpages, if that. Hey it seems to work great for CNN.com, which is the most mundane of pages. But real hard pages, it fails.
Softpedia has ads, and this program fails to remove even one of them (I don't use ad removing software...don't worry Softpedia. Im just testing this program).
Google Ads? Forget it, this program fails at that. At least it gets rid of the annoying IntelliTxt.
Besides listing a count for the number of ads/cookies/popups its blocked, it has a bandwidth meter which only monitors bandwidth with Internet browsing (i.e. webpage or program downloads). I suppose that is a good thing, since they didnt want people to get confused with network traffic as internet traffic.
One last thing...restoring the blue bar after minimizing it to the tray is a bit painful, since it has to render the entire image of the bar. Thats the price you pay for emphasizing the graphics. Oh well.
Overall: nice LOOKING program, but it doesn't perform as well as AdMuncher (AdMuncher is the best ad removing product on the market). |

Great software. I guess this is the only true plugin designed for Internet Explorer 7 (at least one which hasn't been made obsolete. See IEMiddleClicker...IE7 now has middle-click as open link in new tab/window built in).
Install is pretty easy...it will require a reboot of IE7 if you have it open. By default the command menu icon is not enabled, but the status bar icon is enabled. It would be nice if they enabled the command bar button by default since I doubt everyone will be looking to the status bar for access to the program. However, it is not terribly difficult to enable the command bar button from the status bar button.
One thing I like about the program is that they made the two most sought-after tweaks for IE7 very easily accessed and changed. That is, a tweak to enable the Menu Bar, and a tweak to disable the Search Bar. Sorry, this program like all others will require an IE7 reboot to enable those tweaks.
What is nice is that the program adds a lot of features to IE7 which people use FireFox for, and features which some people argue IE7 sorely lack. This includes:
Tab history
Mouse Gestures
URL Aliasing
Ad Filter
Search Aliasing
Of those four features, I barely use the aliasing feature. Shows how much I have been screaming for those features :P.
There are some features which seem to be too much. Save tab to image? What??? OK, I'm not that lazy...besides, I turned off Tabbing since I don't like tabs.
Some features are absolutely sweet, but will never be used...trust me.
Automatic proxy disable/enable through the use of a hotkey? Do you really think you will use that for LEGAL means?
View webpage info? Hey its great to see all the files and links on a page, but I'm never going to use that information for any useful purpose, let alone a legal one.
Just a few negatives with this program.
The status bar icon is accessed with a LEFT click instead of the usual RIGHT click. It will take a lot of work to get used to since I'm accustomed to the standard RIGHT click.
The Ad Filter renders Softpedia useless. This isn't because the Ad Filter is too good, it is because the default definitions disable a lot of Softpedia, including the Search bar. I don't feel like trying to find out which entry is the main culprit, so I just disabled the Ad Filter altogether.
Thats about it.
Hey, its free, so I'm not complaining.
Verdict: it will stay on my system :). |

Awesome software. I have been using PowerMenu for the longest time now to do this same function to my windows. The problem with Powermenu is that 1) it requires mouse movement to do the function, placing its options in the right-click menu of the window's taskbar entry, 2) it sometimes doesnt work properly, and 3) it makes that right-click menu bigger than I want, adding 4 items. Thats another thing...I use PowerMenu to do 1 thing when it does 3 other things I never use (minimize to tray, transparency, and CPU priority).
Toppy is a small program that does the one thing it says it does, with a nice little windows key shortcut to turn it not only ON, but OFF as well.
The only negative I have with this program, which is the same for PowerMenu, is that there is no installer associated with the program. And because it is something I plan to use everytime I run windows, I have to manually place the folder in the Program Files folder and manually add it to the Wiindows startup :P. Maybe the developer will read my review and make a quick change to that ;). |

Its a very well made program. It lets you analyze a whole drive or just a folder, letting you see the space breakdown among subfolders (if they exist).
There is a market out there for these programs, which includes DiskTach and SequoiaView. I dont really like SequoiaView, but I really LOVE DiskTach, and I recommend that to everyone looking for a disk analyzer, as it too is free...which is why I shall compare Folder Size to DiskTach.
Both are the same in their intents, analyze a drive or folder and show you the breakdown.
Both program will analyze every subfolder such that you dont have to scan each subfolder you encounter...they are all stored in the cache.
Appearance-wise, both programs give you a tree of folders on the left side of the window. Folder Size is rather better in that they make the tree appear more like Windows Explorer, what everyone is familiar with. DiskTach on the other hand makes it more textual, not as friendly. Also, things in Folder Size feel a bit more XP-like, with the buttons looking nicer. You get the WIndows 95 feel with DiskTach...oh well.
DiskTach shows everything as a piechart, with percentages. Folder Size, on the other hand, shows everything as an UNSCALED bar graph. DiskTach has a serious advantage here. It wouldnt be "serious" if the bar graph was scaled. What is the difference between scaled and unscaled you ask? Well in an unscaled bar graph, the item with the highest share, or percentage, is unscaled to the width (or height) of the graph, and appears as 100%, and every item thereafter is scaled to that item. In a scaled bar graph, every item is scaled to the full width (or height) of the bar graph. So for example, if you have four items, 50%, 30%, 20% and 10%, in an unscaled bar graph they would look like 100%, 60%, 40% and 20%, where as in a scaled bar graph you would see 50%, 30%, 20% and 10%. That is why a pie-chart, as DiskTach has, is preferred. Its always scaled since all items have to fit in the 360 degree circle.
Accessibility wise, DiskTach is a bit better in that single clicking a folder will show the breakdown on the right side of the program where as Folder Size requires a double click. I prefer the single click. What i like about Folder Size though is that clicking a folder on the right side of the window will open it in a real explorer window. Both of these programs are NOT explorer windows, so having quick access to these folders in explorer is a plus.
Features...well the one thing that puts DiskTach in a different class than Folder Size is the ability to redo the scan, and have a whole archive of the scans at your fingertips. Folder Size lets you rescan, yes, but the information in front of you is from the most recent scan...you cant compare one scan to the previous. I love that you can compare scans with DiskTach...it lets me delete or move some files, then rescan to see what damage (good or bad) that I have done :).
Overall Folder Size is a nice program, however it could take a few more cues from DiskTach to become a great program, as the program seems to stress a more user-friendly interface than awesome, unique features. |

"I'd like to point out that two of the reviews are from the author of this product and two repeats from a person who makes competing software products."
Who is the second author? Hmm? Me? Haha! You must be joking. Youd figure that writing over 490 reviews would remove claims that I write one program or another. I have been accused of writing very many programs because I give the program a good review. Boy do I wish I could code...I could take credit for a lot of programs that people accuse me of creating.
For future reference, sir, check out the number of reviews a person has written before accusing them of being an author.
Yes, Kaspersky makes a great product, but Im not sure the guy who posted a double review with a name including "kaspersky" is vouching for it, let alone associated with it. His review is 100% negative in its intents...just to rip a perfectly fine product.
Im surprised an experienced IT person like yourself isnt familiar with SpywareWarrior. If you read lots of reviews on antispyware programs, you will probably find that a lot of them will refer to SpywareWarrior. They are the foremost authority on identifying "rogue" products, and RogueRemover is HARDLY a "rogue" product. As I said, look at http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm. At the TOP , THE TOP, THE TOP, THE TOP, of the list is RogueRemover, which they recommend using to remove the ROGUE products in their list which follows.
This product is 100% safe, and is meant to do one job: remove rogue antispyware products. They are not COMPETING products. They are ROGUE products, out to STEAL your money.
Since you dont seem to be too well informed, I will go thru the first few titles in the list of detected titles...maybe then you will get the jist of what this product removes:
1 click spy clean - rogue product identified by SW
#1 spyware killer - rogue product identified by SW
1stAntiVirus - rogue product identified by SW
100 percent anti-spyware - rogue product identified by SW
ads alert - rogue product identified by SW
ADS Aware Remover - rogue product identified by SW
Adware Bazoooka - rogue product identified by SW
You getting the jist? You mean to tell me that you consider these rogue, and obviously BAD products are COMPETING products which RogueRemover shouldnt remove?
The products that RogueRemover removes falls into the following categories:
-direct ripoff of a legitimate program like SpyBot or AdAware
-program which detects false positives as a marketing scheme
-program with inadequate scanning engine and databases
-program infected with spyware or malware
Im sorry, but those are not products which are out to compete with anything. They are out there to just STEAL your money and the developers should be condemned for their actions. If KeyKaspersky thinks they should be allowed to remain on peoples computers, then let him go and be ripped off by the countless companies producing rogue products meant to steal your money, because I dont want that crap and nor do the developers of RogueRemover.
The developers of RogueRemover want to make sure your computer is free of this CRAP so you dont get tricked into thinking you should buy these junk programs.
If you still think Im a developer for this program, you can find me with the same username on the Spyware Terminator forums. |

The best software out there to deliver your media to the world.
This software lets you do two things, it lets you watch what is known as internet TV streams, and it lets you create your own internet TV stream.
The viewable streams are not your run-of-the-mill junko streams like Comcast's CN8 network or C-Span, or NASA TV, all those streams that many programs here on Softpedia feature. Absolutely not. All of the streams in SOPcast are all user created and moderated and shows quality content you see on TV. Mostly, people use SOPcast (and its previous joint operation with TVUplayer) to watch and broadcast sporting events. So during the NFL season you can find all NFL games, and all throughout the year soccer, NBA, NHL, cricket, etc. are being shown on SOPcast. Sure, the quality isn't all that great since the user is distributing the content with their own upstream, but its better than nothing.
Now the streaming...which lets you stream your content to the world.
First off, by content, I mean any kind of media, whether it be a DivX movie you wish to show, or whether it be a radio stream, or a video stream, or the best of all, your own, home made, tv or radio stream.
Second off, if your intention is to stream your own live media, you need extra software outside of SOPcast to create the stream, all of which are free. You can use Windows Media Encoder (most popular), VLC, or even Orb. SopCast lets you stream files without the use of other programs.
OK, so there are three programs out there which stream stuff to the world. There TVUplayer, SOPcast and TVants. TVUplayer, everyone knows from the World Cup. The problem with TVUplayer is that its kind of complicated and not very user friendly. TVants, on the other hand, is very easy to work with and requires no signing up or any of that business. The problem with TVants is that you really wont get a great audience on it depending where you are. Here in the US, there arent many TVants users, so creating a TVants stream that only people in the US will enjoy won't get you much of an audience. There is audiences out there for streams in other countries, sure, but you have to target the right audience :P. SopCast, on the otherhand, I have found to be a bit more universal. Create a stream anywhere and itll get an audience.
The other positive with SopCast is that it seems to be a bit more receptive to more stream types. I have found that TVants and TVUplayer work best (let alone at all) only if an mms:// stream link is provided. SopCast on the otherhand seems to work find with mms://, rtsp://, http://. Then include that with the fact that streaming a file with SopCast doesnt require any extra software, and it makes for an awesome program.
They update the program on a kind-of-monthly schedule it seems. So it at least is up to date.
This new version (1.1.0) includes better channel sorting methods and shows channel signal quality in the channel list, as well as the ability to add channels to a Favorites list.
Are there negatives of SopCast? Sure. To broadcast, you need to signup for an account. Sure, the account is free, and sure, you dont even need an account to VIEW channels. The negative of it all is the signup process. Not too long ago there was a quake off the coast of Taiwan, which apparently crippled network infrastructure from Southeast Asia to the rest of the world. So this made an already SLOW SopCast website even slower. So the signup process, which was slow and painful to begin with was made even slower. I would expect that by now the network infrastructure is fixed, but if the SopCast website is any indication I would have to say it isnt.
The official forums are slow as hell, slower than the SopCast website. It is very hard to get anything posted there for help or anything. I suggest people use the SopCast forum at MyP2P forums ( http://www.myp2p.eu/forum/viewforum.php?id=8 ), which is must faster and will net you a reply faster (as there are more active helpful people).
The options are limited. I wish they would put some more options in the options window.
There are two buttons at the bottom of the program, Sub. and Apply. They both do the same thing, which is lead to the SopCast documentation website. I don't that is the intended function :P.
Unlike TVants, SopCast doesn't show the audience size in the program. Sure, if you are a broadcaster, you can login and manage your channel using the management webpage, a page which shows you the audience size. But all you get in the program is a nice little decimal value, which is the product of some unknown function (unknown to everyone except the developers) which incorporates the size of the audience, the source quality of the stream, the network quality of the stream, and probably a few other unknown factors. The highest I've ever seen the value is around 0.52 while running a channel with an audience of 2500 people.
Well, I'm going to get back to streaming if you don't mind :).
I suggest you check out this program, and if you like what you see, you should consider streaming stuff to SopCast as well, whether it be TV, radio or just an archive of movies. Remember, TV requires a TV tuner card or some sort of capture card :). |

You see, you don't seem to understand. We are having this conversation/argument because you refuse to write a review.
Im not talking about something like your first post where you lobby for the product, saying it has no spyware or any of that, copying information from the homepage.
Im talking about a genuine review, like SOFTPEDIA and I take the time to do. That entails the following:
-Downloading the product
-INSTALLING the product
-TRYING the product
-reviewing the POSITIVES of the product
-reviewing the NEGATIVES of the product
-pointing out what you LIKE about the product
-pointing out what you DONT like about the product
-how the product can improve
-your overall impression of the product
I hate it when idiots like you come on the reviewing system and post lobbyist posts, saying it doesnt do ABC, and does ABC, this guy is an idiot, this review is dumb, that review is wrong, blah blah blah. Stuff like YOU DO.
You have chosen this route and thus I feel compelled to shoot down your lame ass.
You havent once mentioned a single negative about the product, something which shouldnt be too hard to spot. If you can find NO negative with the product, then what else am I to believe than you to be part of the company? Everything has a negative side, but yet you are blind to it...meaning you are a lobbyist, or work for the company.
Either way, write a genuine review, or get lost. I suggest you read my first post, Date: 2006-12-29, 13:46 GMT.
That, sir is a review.
Instead of shooting down my review, which is a review of what I SAW in the product, you can write a followup review. Instead |
