I have tried a number of CD recovery programs but InfinaDyne’s CD/DVD Diagnostic is the one I found to work the best and managed to actually find and recover my data. It also works with DVD-RAM (if the drive supports it) so that it can transfer my recorded programs from the television to my computer. Almost all of my recorded programs were corrupted, but CD/DVD Diagnostic filled in the errors.

It can take a long time, sometimes days, to recover data if the CD (or DVD) is really badly damaged because it does a sector by sector scan, trying to read each sector several times if it is damaged, to retrieve as much data as possible. You can adjust the number of read attempts however.
