    PDFCreator 0.9.3

An excellent program, very stable and with all the features you'd need. Unfortunately they've started bundling an "IE toolbar" add-on along with the standard installation, which gives a button to create a PDF of a webpage. Unfortunately it also tracks usage and sends info to third parties. I would call this spyware, but the project admins insist otherwise.
You can read about it here:

It *is* possible to install PDFCreator without the toolbar, but the option to install it is checked by default.

AVG-free 7.5 is a very good program, easy to install, and completely nag-free. It feels like a very professional product. Contrary to drkoopz's opinion, I know many non-technical users who use AVG without any problem. It auto-updates its definitions every day, which is fine, but hard to schedule exactly.

My biggest complaint -- With the free version, you don't have much control over what files are subject to the on-access scanning. You can either choose "all" or a list of "infectable" file extensions, which includes files with no extension. You can't exclude directories. For me, this is bad because AVG ends up quarantining my Thunderbird inbox and junk folder, which are stored in files with no extension.

    IZArc 3.6 Build 1260

This review didn't mention the best thing about IZArc 3.6 -- it's the first free archive program to support AES encryption introduced by Winzip 9. Hopefully this new standard can replace the very weak password protection offered by old-fashioned zip files. (Rumor has it that 7-Zip will support this feature in the next version as well.)

Also a few items left out of "The Bad" section --
-- IZArc has two unfixed vulnerabilities listed at Secunia ( http://secunia.com/product/7255/ ) one moderately critical and one less critical. The less critical one is confirmed as still being present in version 3.6, while the moderately critical one doesn't say.
-- The icons that IZArc associates with archive files are ugly! And they cannot be re-skinned with the skinning tool. You could go into the Windows file types dialog and change the icon on each type, but since it supports dozens of file types this would take a while.
-- When I right-click a folder and create a zip, I want to put the folder's contents in the zip, not the folder itself. I really wish this was an option.

Anyway, it's a great program! At the moment, it's my favorite.
