    PDF To Word Converter 2.5

This one converted text well but refused to convert graphics. I tried several times with different PDF files but had no luck getting graphics to convert.

If you just need a PDF to text converter this one would be an OK choice. Although, there are less expensive products that do the same thing.

I attempted to convert several different PDF files which included basic line-art graphics. I tried every setting in the software and tried a half-dozen conversions. Not one time was Able2Doc able to convert the graphics over. I would just get a blank space where the graphic was supposed to be. Also, Able2Doc added an extra blank page to every converted file.

I tried other less-bulky programs that did essentially the same thing as this one but took up less space and they were easier to use, e-PDF to Word comes to mind.

This one definitely is not worth the high price tag.

    novaPDF Pro 5.0 build 218

I decided to give this software a try sometime back. I installed Novapdf 5.0 build 214 on my computer without any issues. It worked perfectly right alongside CutePDF. However, when I learned that Nova had a new build (218) I decided to give it a try. This was a HUGE mistake. As soon as I was finished installing Novapdf 5.0.218 I was prompted to restart my compuer. This was something that build 214 didn't require. Then as soon as my computer rebooted I started having problems. I kept getting a pop-up message telling me that new hardware was found. Apparently, Novapdf 5.0.218 had attempted to uninstall my printer and now it wasn't working properly. Then my Windows MySQL started up all by itself. This is a component that was installed with Vegas and I have never even used it before. However, Novapdf had somehow fired it up. Then when I attempted to reinstall my printer software it wouldn't take properly. If that wasn't bad enough Novapdf wouldn't let me uninstall it at first. After quite a bit of frustration and time I was able to uninstall it Novapdf and reinstall my printer software. Things seem to be working properly now and hopefully that won't change. However, I would not recommend this new build (218) of Novapdf. I would recommend CutePDF instead.

I was using pdf995 for a while but got tired of the nag screens and wasn't sure it was worth buying, so I decided to give CutePDF a try. It installed without any problems and works perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a no-cost PDF creation tool. Also, I have read some reviews that state neither CutePDF or pdf995 support hyperlinks which doesn't appear to be the case. When I include the full url in the PDF file it works perfectly as a hyperlink using both of these programs. Although, CutePDF offers their Pro version for editing hyperlinks and pdf995 offers pdfEdit for the same thing.

This one, along with Tweak PDF couldn't compress any of my PDF files regardless of the settings used. In fact, in one setting my files were even enlarged with Free PDF Compressor while supposedly being compressed.

This one looks good but functions poorly. While I honestly didn't try every feature the one I needed didn't work at all. I attempted to use the compression feature in various settings but it didn't compress the files in any setting.

    Yahoo! SiteBuilder 2.3.1

This was the first WYSIWYG editor that I started working with simply because I had a Yahoo domain. I found it easy to use and was able to build a 20 page website rather quickly. However, I started having issues with the program crashing and actually freezing my computer up. At first this was only occasionally then it started to become more frequent. Finally, I decided to uninstall the program after quite a bit of frustration. That's when I ran into even more problems.

Unfortunately, Sitebuilder uses non-standard code and actually adds extra coding to the files. It even adds hidden text to the files that shows up when you attempt to open the files in another HTML editor. I assume all of this is done to prevent surfers from easily viewing & stealing your source files but it makes it extremely difficult for the site owner to modify the files in another editor.

While this is actually a pretty good program it is not technically "freeware". After 30 days some of the features are rendered inactive and you get a nag screen prompting you to purchase an activation key to restore those features.

Having been frustrated by all of the various freeware WYIWYG editors available, I decided to give Alleycode a try, even though it's not WYSIWYG. While I haven't attempted to use all of the features, so far it seems like a pretty solid program, especially for free.

I really like the split screen preview feature. This is the primary feature I liked about 1st Page 2006, but unfortunately that particular software is not freeware.

I would say that Alleycode is probably one of best, freeware HTML editors I have tried so far, and I have just about tried them all.

I tried Pagebreeze after first trying several other freeware WYSIWYG HTML editors. So far, I have found Pagebreeze to be one of the best available. While I have found a few bugs such as the software not always saving the files when clicking on "save", and some code remaining even after deleting it, I have still had less problems with this software than other similar software such as NVU.

If funds are low and you need a freeware WYSIWYG editor, I would recommend this one over others.

I found this to be an excellent program for my needs. While it wasn't intuitive to learn, once I figured it out I was quickly making java buttons to perfectly match my website.

If you want to add some buttons to your site without having to spend much money...this is the program to check out.

I was pretty excited to try this software out but that excitement quickly turned to disappointment.

I downloaded and opened the software then immediately attempted to install a couple of add-ons that I had also downloaded. At that moment I new the software wasn't going to be as good as I was lead to believe. The add-ons must have conflicted with the software and they distorted the interface. So, I had to uninstall the add-ons. Then when I opened up one of my html files it was pretty distorted...The buttons were out of place, and pictures didn't line up properly. However, I continued to give nvu a fair shot.

I finally got a number of files edited and uploaded to my server. Initially they turned out OK. However, later when I wanted to edit the files in my text editor I ran into problems. It seems that NVU had decided to add additional, unnecessary code, including multiplying some of the codes 2 or 3 times. It also added additional lines of space throughout the files so that my single html file would likely be 4 or 5 pages in length if I intended to print it off. I am still deleting spaces and excessive codes from my files, several days later.

I decided to give PageBreeze Free a try and found it to be many times better than NVU. In fact, I am currently using it to clean up the issues left behind by NVU and haven't had any problems with it.
