I was hoping that this program would replace the icons in exe files that my icon editor couldn't; it can --but even without changing the file size, the resulting file (with the new icon) won't run. Alas. I don't know enough to judge the program overall; from my use of it I got a strong impression that it's well designed. It makes sure you do what you're supposed to (if you don't, the program won't make the [wrong] changes you mistakenly were about to), and that's really valuable in a program this powerful. It's a standalone, too: doesn't need to be installed, and makes only the tiniest ("open with") changes in your registry. Gee, I wish it could change those ugly icons I'm desperate to replace!

    Sib Icon Replacer 2.20

Sib Icon Replacer tells you beforehand (most of the time) if the program you're working on will not accept a replacement icon (because the executable has been packed, or ...) -- this feature saves a lot of time and trouble. But when it does work, the trial version sticks "demo" on the icon; I guess it's one way to get you not to use the program without registering, but I would have been more positively impressed if it replaced five icons and then began to put "demo" on them. Overall, it's easy to use, and it seems to work without doing any harm. But the (registered, paid-for) icon editor I've used for years can change the icons of the programs that Sib Icon Replacer can. I was looking for something that would change the icons in exe files that my icon editor couldn't; I'd pay extra for that. (One caution: be sure you make a copy of the working exe that you want to change; then, if something goes wrong, you can just delete the changed file and rename the backup without having to uninstall and re-install the program.) Bottom line: if you use a freeware icon editor that doesn't change exe icons at all, this program may be worth paying $20 for.

    FillOut Manager 1.02

This little FillOut Manager is just what I need and wanted, until I began configuring it and ran into the access violations errors. When I removed an item or two from the form-filling list, for example, I highlighted them and pressed my keyboard's Delete instead of the minus sign on the UI, zap--access violation. So I told myself to be careful (this little formfiller would be worth the effort), was careful, and then got access violations doing legitimate-to-the-interface things. So I gave up. I'd like to see FillOut Manager v3 or so.

This is (still) the best icon capturer available. It does everything it claims to, is absolutely stable, and uses practically no system resources.. I've been using it for years, and I thought there might be something comparable or better developed recently--I looked--but there just isn't. (The 96 x 96 pixels format is good for capturing small images and thumbnails, too. )

    Digit Skinnable Clock 2.1

All I was looking for was a digital desktop clock that I could configure to be very small. Now I have a very unobtrusive display just below my "My Computer" icon, and the skin I made for it hides the icon text nicely. For me, the only shortcomings are that the numeric display has to be black and that one can't get rid of _both_ the AM-PM indicator and the seconds-display. Being visually picky, I rated it 4. But someone who wants to use Digit Clock's (many, but not resource-hogging) other features, could easily give it a 5.

    Unstoppable Copier 2.28

It's hard to rate this accurately-- It's quite possible that the several files (out of 100 ) it could not copy from my defective CD are totally hopeless. I tried IsoBuster (reputed to be very good), and it told me the whole CD was corrupt and unreadable, but Unstoppable Copier came through. It's incredibly easy to use, very small, and doesn't require installation. Definitely worth trying!
