In my previous review I forgot to change my Firefox rating from the default "Good" to "Excellent" on all counts.

    Sorry about that!

I've been using FF since version 1.5. I switched from IE 6 and never looked back. For me it's not so much the basic Firefox browser program, but the incredible amount of useful extensions that can be added to it. (I currently have 31 installed!) This program literally changed my entire online experience.

FF 3.0 was a major leap forward for a number of reasons. I started using it during it's Beta 2 stage and I think the program is dramatically improved over FF 2.0. I can honestly stay I haven't once desired to switch back to FF 2.0.

I am also currently using Opera 9.51 as my backup browser. I like Opera, but there's nothing compelling about it that would make me switch from the Fox.

I do use IE7, but only when I have to. I'm interested to see what IE8 will have to offer, but I doubt it can compete with FF (or even Opera), and will continue to lose market share.

    OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 Beta 2 RC1 / 2.4.1 Final

I'm currently using OpenOffice.org version 2.4.1. I've been using OO for over 2 years now and haven't had any desire to switch back to MS Office. I even have a copy of MS Office 2007 and haven't bothered to use it since OO suits my needs A to Z.

OO isn't as polished as MS Office, but with each new iteration it gets more features and more powerful. Although MS Office sets the standard for office suites, I don't think its advancing much anymore. (I mean really, how much more can you do with an office suite?) Hence, OO is fast catching up to MS Office and should eventually be as powerful as the MS offering.

The price for OO is an added bonus--it's hard to beat free! Also, the program has extensive online resources to help resolve any issues you might have.

    Cool Record Edit Deluxe 5.9.8

I've experimented with CRED 5.9.8 for a couple of days now. The program is off to a good start, but still needs some work before I'll switch to it. I really like the GUI layout and colors. It's also very intuitive to use, so beginners shouldn't have too much difficulty. Overall, this is a pretty good program for simple audio editing/recording.

However, it is sorely missing some key features:
    1) The ability to auto-scroll during playback. (The program stops playing the audio file when it reaches the right side of the viewing window.)
    2) Live update while recording. (The viewing window doesn't show the actual recording levels. Instead, you get a 'relative' recording level indicator that doesn't translate accurately to the actual recording levels.)
    3) the ability to use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out during playback. I also don't like that the selector line doesn't stay in the same location on the viewing window (time-wise) when zooming in and out.

    Cool Edit Pro 2.1

Cool Edit is still the best audio editing program I have used--even though it's five years old. I find it much easier to use and more powerful than Adobe Audition 2.0 or Adobe Soundbooth. (I only work with audio files.) I have also tried Cool Record Edit Deluxe 5.9.8, but that program still needs further development before I would consider switching away from CE Pro 2.1.
I used to use Cool Edit 2000, but that program no longer works with Windows Vista. I have used CE Pro 2.1 with Vista Business (x32) and Vista Ultimate (x64) without any issues.
Since CE Pro 2.1 is no longer supported, the software listed here is only a trial version. However, an Internet search on Marco Hardmeier or cep2reg.exe might prove to be very helpful to anyone interested.

    Taskix 1.5

I was using Taskbar Shuffle--and really liked it--until I started using Vista64. Taskbar Shuffle can't be used with an x64 operating system, so I had to find an alternative. I tried Taskix and it worked right from the start. (It comes in x86 and x64 flavors.) I can once again easily rearrange my Taskbar buttons by dragging and dropping them. I do miss the pop-up window that showed up in Taskbar Shuffle when I moved a button, but that is a minor issue. (It is something for the developer of Taskix to consider adding.) Taskix has worked flawlessly for me for over 2 months now. I highly recommend it--especially if your using XP64 or Vista64

    This little program is fantasic!

If you are like me and constantly rearranging tabs in Firefox to keep things organized, then this program is for you!

I don't know why this feature isn't standard in Windows. It's so easy to use: Download it, install it, start using.
