Excellent search and indexing program, it supports so many file formats that the competitors can only dream about. Comes with a server so you can share it over network, or run searches in your browser.
Well yeah, there are other similar programs that are free, but they don't support many of the formats that I need, they don't support so many languages, and morphology.
Maybe GUI is a bit outdated, but who cares.
And it's relatively low on resource needs, the competing programs that I tested, were a resourcehog.
Thumbs up for this gem. |

While the individual modules of Do-Organizer might have some options you can't find elsewhere, the main strenght of DO lies elsewhere: it's the all-in-one concept, and the possibility of close interconnection of records in all modules.
Why is it so important?
- David Allen, the much acclaimed creator of Getting Things Done (GTD) philosophy, includes "having a trusted system" as one of the ground rules. While trusted system is a personal concept and individual to each user, in my eyes DO is as generally closest to fullfilling that capacity as I could find in my quest for a software.
- DO implements all the functions you are looking for, in one place. That means you only run one application, instead of ten. Less applications = less distraction, more things getting done. Especially for procrastinators and ADD/ADHD challenged people.
Possibility to keep records between modules linked allows for strong implementation of supporting documentation. While you only want to keep your next actions (GTD term) on your todo list, you can link each next action to any supporting documentation (including spreadsheets, documents, ...), which will only be one click away but not clutter your todo list.
Links rule. Example: in the past, keeping my info spread over several applications, I had to copy email body to the notes of my to-do's. Not any longer. In DO you just make a link from todo to the email message. Same with any other snippets, no more keeping duplicate texts over several applications.
These two key concepts (all-in-one, interlinking) alone make DO killer app for me.
Out of the hundreds of features, I would like to pinnpoint two:
- Scribe is great for writing articles or books, not being a native English speaker, I appreciated the 4 various analysis methods that allow me to improve the readability of my texts (when I need to).
- Finance section is just great for those little spreadsheets....well there is the Excel for all that advanced stuff, but 95% of the time I find DO is just fine, moreover DO saves all those tiny spreadsheets neatly organized, searchable and connectable to other information (to-do's, clients/address book, etc.)
Now...I'm a power user of several leading applications in their field (todo, email, outlines, ...) with long hours and expertise invested into them. DO can't aspire to be better mailer than my top specialized email app, or better todo list than advanced specialized todo-list application, at least not in the short term. But it offers enough incentives to make me seriously contemplating about dropping most of those specialized apps anyway. |

Fullrecall is the rescue for those of us who need to learn constantly. Due to it's optimally scheduled repetitions, it saves significant time compared to other flashcard programs or drilling from books directly, yet guarantees maximum possible acquisition/remembering rate.
The artificial intelligence algorithm is flexible to conform to each user's memory patterns individually, so that you LEARN AT THE SPEED YOU NEED, not the speed some other person thought would be best for you.
It is hard to persist with repetitions every day, but if you do, sweet fruits are at the end of hard road: after some time, the habit to learn everyday is ingrained deeply and becomes automatic, thus you benefitting from learning without any procrastination or exercising unnecessary willpower.
One thing to understand about Fullrecall, it is a cross-platform application, thus the GUI will always be less than what it would look like if it was a specialized Windows application. That said, it still looks great compared to other cross-platform applications that I know. |

I understand it is very hard to develop an email application that will cater to everybody, and that will include all the standards and all the charsets (to those not in English speaking countries).
I have found Pocomail to be great app to use, despite it was lacking some features and had few shortcomings, over the years. It is a rather innovative email app, one that allows for high productivity and usage comfort. Built-in scripting allows implement advanced functions you would otherwise not find in any standard email client.
What I value most on Poco is the very pleasant GUI, some advanced features not to be found in other email clients, and constant development. Also the fact that it uses standard unix mailbox so it is easily convertible to other formats, searchable, etc.
What I don't like that much is that recently, the upgrade periods when one has to pay the upgrade fee yet again, have shortened significantly. |

MyLife Organized is the kind of application that I have been waiting for for years. Coupled with TimeTo(Above&Beyond), it moved my productivity and task planning to what seems a significant step forward. There are still few functionalities I wished to be implemented, but it is IMHO big leap ahead of competition anyway, and I have no doubt these new functionalities will be implemented soon, as the developer is very dedicated and over the past few months there has been constant rate of development and some great features added.
I have reated it only very good on two criteria not because there is something lacking, but because this is a todo list/outliner on steroids, "the todo list gorilla", with some deep functionality built in, so it can take time before you will fully explore what it can offer. Good news is, you don't have to wait, you can start right away with 10% of functionality (frankly, how much of the Word or Excel functionality do you use, anyway?), and grow your productivity along with incorporating more and more of it's functions in your standard task management procedure.
This is the app that I would keep on my PC if I could use only one program. |
