Bayonetta: Sexy and Deadly

Without sounding ridiculously enthusiastic about the game, I’ll start off by saying that Sega made a wise choice when they decided to publish the work done by Platinum Games.

Bayonetta is one of the few Xbox 360 action games that can keep you glued to the controller because of both its sexy body and the totaly addicting game play.

Although words like as “over the top”, “sexual” and “violence” come to mind, they only serve as the main ingredients to what turned out to be a recipe for success.

Story

Bayonetta (the sexy main character with the body and moves of a pole dancer) wakes up after being knocked out at a bottom of a lake for five centuries and of course, her memory is a bit hazy. Suffering from a small amnesia, the only thing she can remember is that she’s an Umbran Witch (endowed with some really awesome powers) and that she has been at war with the Lumen Sages (also known as angels).

Fighting a war since the beginning of time in a desperate attempt to keep the balance between light and darkness, Bayonetta sets out to do what she knows best: killing angels with her sexy looks and deadly six shooters (four guns strapped to her arms and high heels).

Hunting down and taking out huge bosses (Cardinal Virtues), she slashes and shoots her way through the agents of Paradisio, making a mockery of the divine forces that she so effortlessly lays to rest.

Gameplay

Although at first you get the feeling that she’s a bad guy in all of this, playing Bayonetta you never get the evil vibe or the sociopathic and senseless killing impression. In fact, you feel more like a (not so helpless) victim that’s constantly being harassed.

Equipped with a dark sense of humor, a British accent, some really nice body curves and a deadly set of powers and weapons, Byonetta is one of the deadliest characters I’ve ever come across.

The combos you can perform are so many that you’ll have to go through the entire game to master them all. The upside is that most of these special moves can easily be performed by activating a sequence of punches and kicks that unleash one of the deadly attacks.

Some over the top torture attacks that are guaranteed to inflict a lot of damage and pain, include placing your enemies on guillotines, summoning a huge spiked wheel and even spanking them every one in a while (one of the kinkiest things I’ve ever laid eyes on in a game ).

There’s also the Witch Time feature that you can activate by skillfully dodging an attack, a split second before you get hit. This will enable you to warp time and move faster than your enemies, leaving them in a slow motion state where you can freely move about and bring down the hurt.

Each time you kill and angel, you collect halos that you can later use as currency to buy weapons and various upgrades to your skills. This way, by the time you reach the final bosses, Bayonetta becomes a deadly and sexy killing machine that tortures her enemies, cracks jokes and takes her clothes off in the process (I’m not kidding).

Climax attacks happen at the end of each boos fight, when Bayonetta summons a hellish beast by using her hair (that somehow is also her skin-tight body outfit) and tares her enemy to pieces. If that isn’t sexy, I don’t know what is!

Packing powers such as wall-walking, shape shifting and punish attacks, there’s really no limit to what Bayonetta can do. Not to mention that she can also catwalk, dance, taunt with sexy moves and always land on her feet. I’m guessing it’s clear by know that she has been designed for the male public rather than girls that looking for a fight.

Another cool feature of the game is that the loading screen is more of a training ground than an actual static image that you impatiently await disappear. In fact, it’s within these small intermissions between levels that you get to view a full list of all the available combos and also experiment with them.

Audio and Video

The creative and fantasy-like environments have been abundantly detailed, giving off the impression that you’ve fallen down the rabbit hole one to many times. Ranging from highway chases to angelic or hellish environments, the world of Bayonetta is uniquely suited to sustain the epic and everlasting battle between good and evil.

Even the voice acting is not bad. The British accent with which Bayonetta parades through cinematic scenes and the sexy seductive tone that she’s using are more than a treat.

Fighting scenes are constantly sustained by a soundtrack that’s a constant mixture of pop, chorus singing and something arcade-like. Personally, I would have went with a little more Kid Rock and a little less Britney Spears, but I’m guessing it still does the job for some of you.

Conclusion

Epic fight scenes, epic bosses, epic characters are all part of a sixteen chapter fighting game that’s definitely going to keep you firmly holding the controller for a while. With tons of combos and graphics that sometimes overwhelm you with details, Bayonetta is a title that you’ll not soon forget.

Some of you might not appreciate frantic game play and find that the action is a bit too intense. But then again, if you’re looking for some tasteful clichés and some good old fashion monster but kicking wrapped in a sexy body-tight black outfit, remember the name Bayonetta.
