Furius ISO Mount is an application that allows users to mount a large number of images in their operating systems with minimal effort. It's designed to be used by beginners and experts alike, although the need for such apps has diminished.
There was a time when users were looking for the best application to mount an ISO or other types of images, and there was a great offering. For some unknown reason, there isn't much need for this kind of application anymore, or at least not as it used to. Some of the functionalities have been integrated straight into the operating system, and there is usually no point opening up an ISO or any kind of image.
Nonetheless, there are some pretty good applications out there. One of them is called Furius ISO Mount, and no, it's not a mistake. It's not a terribly complicated application, and there aren't too many options for it, but it does its job flawlessly, which is something that we don't usually see. Most of the application have some sort of an Achilles heel, a minor problem that is not all that big, but you know it's there.
Installation
You can find Furius ISO Mount in the Ubuntu repositories, and I tested the application in Ubuntu 15.10. There are no dependency issues, and it's a really small package, so even if you install it with the Ubuntu Software Center, it's not going to be a problem. It also comes with the Brasero plug-in, so you can burn CDs without any complications.
You can also install the application by using the terminal. All you need to do is run this command in a terminal near you (root will be required):
Usage
The interface of the Furius ISO Mount couldn't be any simpler than this. It doesn't have any kind of preferences, and all you can do with it is available in the main screen. All you have to do is browse for the image, load it, and then mount it. Depending on the settings of your OS, you might be prompted that it's now available. In Ubuntu, you'll find a small icon in the launch, and that's about it. You now have the image loaded and accessible from Nautilus.
Users can also calculate the MD5 or SHA1 checksums for the images to see if they are the same with the one provided by whoever built that image. This is especially important for ISO images for operating systems. It's also possible to start the CD burning process straight from the Furius ISO Mount. A small history window is provided at the bottom, so you don't have to look all over again for an image that you have just used.
