The application is distributed under the Freeware license, which means you can use it for free without any limitations as long as you need. After installation, the program will sit comfortably in your system tray from where you will be able to access all its features.
At first sight, 7 Sticky Notes stands up from the crowd with its almost realistic sticky notes and the plethora of features it comes packed with. Adding a new note is a simple operation that can be done either from the tray menu or by pressing the Win+Z hotkey.
After you write the intended note/reminder, you can fully personalize its look, feel and functionality from the Note Configuration Window. 7 Sticky Notes comes with many customization options that will allow you to make each note unique and easy to set apart.
You can easily choose the font and formatting options for the written text, select from 7 predefined color themes (yellow, green, pink, white, purple, blue and red) the one that suits you best or even create your own custom color theme. The amount of transparency you want to be applied to your note can also be adjusted from this window.
The application also allows you to add pictures inside your notes using drag and drop. Unfortunately the program currently supports only the BMP format and the rendering is not very accurate. The photos will have some black lines on them depending on their dimension. When trying to add larger photos (over 1024 x 768) the program would crash almost every time or, at best, it will freeze for a few seconds.
Do you need to schedule an appointment or other important task? 7 Sticky Notes gives you the possibility to add an individual alarm to each of your notes so you don`t accidentally forget about them.
The alarm can be set at a given time and date or to repeat itself on a daily, weekly, monthly or early. A good addition to this section would be the possibility to launch an application, web link or any other file when the alarm is triggered.
To hide a note until you need it, you can use the Sleep option from the configuration window. The Sleep and Alarm features can also be used at the same time in order to automatically trigger an alarm when the note “wakes up”. Adding the possibility to hide individual notes regardless of the sleep timer should come in handy when you want to quickly get rid of specific notes on your desktop.
You can view or hide all your notes by pressing the tray icon or by using the Win+X hotkey. Unfortunately, you might have to change this hotkey because it interferes with the Windows Mobility Center shortcut and it will open it every time you will use it.
One of the best features 7 Sticky Notes has to offer is the Note Manager. With the help of the Note Manager you will be able to keep track of all your notes across multiple virtual desktops. Creating multiple virtual desktops for your notes, allows you to organize them in individual groups and categories.
This way you can keep your work related notes in one place, while To-Do lists or birthdays, for example, can be safely kept on another virtual desktop without interfering with your work. To quickly navigate through your virtual desktops you can use the Win+V or Win+Shift+V key combinations.
When you delete a note, it will be automatically moved to the application recycle bin from where you will be able to recover it later if needed. In order to completely remove a note you must delete it from the recycle bin.
If you’re working on a project with some of your colleagues and you want to share the same notes between different computers the synchronization feature will surely come in handy.
After you have chosen the same database storage for all the computers involved, synchronization will be done automatically or manually from the Options window. Some customization options could come in handy in this section to easily setup when and how should the synchronization occur.
The database can be automatically backed up so you won`t lose any information in case of system failure. It can be set to back up your database hourly, daily, weekly or monthly as needed.
The Good
With 7 Sticky Notes you can even schedule when you should be reminded about a specific task. Synchronizing your notes between multiple computers can also be done with 7 Sticky Notes, making it a versatile utility.
The Bad
Improvements to the alarm and sleep features can be made, allowing them to launch a program, web link or other files when the alarm is triggered.
The Statistics feature doesn’t work at all; during our tests we constantly got an error when trying to view the statistics for the created notes.
The Truth
7 Sticky Notes is a lightweight yet feature packed application that will surely satisfy your needs when it comes to quick notes, reminders and even task scheduling. Being able to store your notes on multiple desktops will make your work a lot easier and hassle free.
The application needs some minor improvements in various sections, but, overall, it manages to provide the tools needed to never forget an important task again.
