Availability won't ramp up for about two months, unfortunately

Acer has officially launched its latest LED-backlit monitor, though it has not gotten around to actually making it available yet.

The S271HL S1 series, as the display is called, measures 27 inches in diagonal and is the sort of product whose spec sheet will flood your vision with zeros.

Most notable is the dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, quite the ambitious figure.

This parameter is optimized by the Acer Adaptive Contrast Management technology and leads to higher image quality during certain film or game scenes.

For those who are uncertain what DCR does, it determines the clarity of bright or dim scenes, sharpening lines and contours and enhancing details and gradation.

Of course, Acer did not waste its time providing this sort of DCR on just any random liquid crystal display.

The 27-inch monitor features the native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD) and measures just 24mm in thickness, which is less than one inch.

Furthermore, the LED lamp reproduces a larger color range and enables a better saturation than CCFL, all the while consuming less energy (68% better efficiency) and being more reliable overall.

Not only that, but the company also packed everything inside a black frame with a rounded foot stand whose finish is reminiscent of porcelain.

Other specifications include a response time of 2ms (most panels settle for 5ms and there are even 14ms models) and multiple display inputs (HDMI and DVI with HDCP support).

For those unaware, HDCP is a protection standard for copyrighted video, one that only approved products can play.

Acer will start shipping the S271HL at some point in April, near the end of the month, for the price of £229, or $358.82 / 276.39 Euro.

Gamers will probably want to keep an eye out for it, since the DCR and response time are right up their alley.
