Where's that darn file?

If you're a student, professional, or just an everyday bum hanging out and writing, you're going to want to have this program. For avid writers who aren't as organized as they could be, this little ditty will change your life.

If you've used popular Web search engines, then you're used to receiving accurate and dependable result almost instantaneously. You've become reliant on the ability to search for a key word or key phrase and have the specified quote come to you without any problem. The burning question is why can't you do it that easily on your computer?

The burning answer is that you can with Archivarius 3000. It is a program that searches through your personal files thoroughly and effectively.

Using the program

Initially, before starting your search, you're going to need to index exactly what you want to search through. This may take some time initially, but once this is through, it'll be well worth the wait. A thing to be noted is that the unregistered version only allows 10,000 entries to be indexed (so don't get your hopes up, it skipped over 80 files on my run).

When you originally go through setting up what Archivarius wants to search through, you're able to set it to search through all your archived folders as well. I thought that this was definitely a great option to have, especially for power users who tend to have a lot of zipped files throughout their computers.

Now to get down to the nitty gritty. This program has really powerful search parameters that can be set to just about anything. Your search parameters are what make this program one of the best of its kind. You're able to search for files that have either been recently modified (and if you don't remember, you can choose between specific modification dates).

You're
able to search for different sized file; any, very small (1kb), small (10kb), medium (100kb), big (1Mb), very big (10Mb), or in a specified interval. Aside from searching for just file size, you can browse for key words (you can also search as part of words).

You're also able to search through emails if your heart so desires. Another option you have is to go through and select the language, encoding and type of file you want to search for.

It's great that I can create more than one index when I search for things.
This really helps when you're doing a more in depth search of a certain part of your computer. I also thought that the ability to search in a server was really cool, it's not something you usually get the option of doing.

If all these things still aren't enough for you to work with, you're in luck because there are 2 more options that you're bound to love. The 'Search Master' is a highly attuned search tool that will most certainly find what you're looking for. You can specify the date, size, type and keyword and let it loose searching throughout your computer.

The last little tool you have at your disposal is the 'Direct Search' tool which lets you be super sensitive in your searches. By this I mean you can set case sensitivity, space sensitivity, allowing non-existent spaces, allowing masks, using additional search attributes and more.

The Good

This program has super search functionality that you'd normally find on powerful online search engines, but it works directly on your computer instead. It searches through lots of different filetypes and is bound to find the file you're looking for. A 5/5 star tool hands down.

The Bad

I wish the trial version didn't cap your indexing to 10,000, but that's why it helps to make more than one index.

The Truth

If you're tired of searching for your files the normal way, there's help. Everyone knows that the search engine your computer has right now doesn't' compare to what this tool can do. It'll help you in more ways that you know. The price, although $30, is still reasonable. It's a must have for users who write and aren't organized. It's easy to use and practical to have. Great product.
