Computers have become an indispensable tool in our every day work. Some of us may see this modern tool as an object that only makes our life easier but, still, there are some of us who are really interested in it and, consequently, who would like to know a bit more about it.

In order to find out almost all there is to know about your machine, you basically have two options available: you can go for the old-fashioned way of looking inside your computer case to see what components lie hidden there, or what a specific part is named is and you might even try some inefficient system information tools; then, there is always the option of going for the modern way, of a powerful system information tool.

Many years ago, when I was still a newbie with computers, I would most likely have went for the former option, by looking inside my computer case to see what parts and components were there to find, and what their names and models were. Now, with the passing of the years, I have discovered that you can easily find software specialized in system information.

A good instance of this type of software is Auslogics System Information, a program that is not just your average system info utility, but a powerful and smart computer analyzer that will provide you with all the necessary information when interested in a computer configuration, and sometimes even more than that.

By just taking a quick peek at the interface of the app, we can easily observe that it is very organized. To find the desired information, you do not have to scroll through complicated menus, or to enter weird parameters or command lines. Everything about this program is very organized. In the left panel, we find 3 categories: the System category, the Devices category and, last but not least, the Others category.

What you do from hereon depends entirely on the type of information you are particularly interested in. So, it's best if you set out by asking yourself just that: are you looking for details on the software and operating system part, the system devices part or perhaps you're interested in finding a little about the installed programs or the local area network?

First things first, we have the System category, where you can easily find whatever information you need, even if you are a newbie. The general information tab shows users a quick preview of the currently installed operating system, common devices like processor, ram or printer, and a short briefing on the number of installed programs. In the OS area, you may also find useful information about the OS version, logged users and even Windows environments.

Moving on to the rest of the items found in this category, we can easily observe that they also offer us certain details on memory usage and system performance. Memory usage shows us just how much memory is used by each and every process, while the Performance submenu reveals the number of running processes, services and drivers.

The second largest component of the utility, the Devices category, is basically putting all you need to know at your fingertips. In this area, you will be easily able to access complete information on your processor and main board, while the rest of the tabs provide just as accurate and detailed info on the installed video device, hard disk and USB devices.

Last but not least, we get to the Others section, which is where experienced users can find precious information regarding installed programs and program versions, DirectX and much more.

However, if all of the above is just not enough for you, or say you happen to be a high-level user who also wants to find out more about the local area connection, you can easily do so by accessing the specified tab. Here, you are certain to find everything you need, including the following: General information, adapters and, perhaps most importantly, a complete network details report. The last submenu, aptly called Device Manager, does not offer anything too extravagant, if one were to compare it with the default Device manager found in the Windows Operating System.

And now comes the best part, which I saved for last: not only will this app enable you to see even the smallest detail about your personal computer, but also to save it, e-mail it, take it on a portable device or simply just share it with whomever you might want to. If you go to the Create Report area, you can easily generate an "identity card" for your PC in HTML, XML file or, for those who are not that "picky," in plain text.

Overall, it seemed pretty clear to me that Auslogics System Information could be a good choice, should you ever consider changing your average system info tool. After having tested it for a few days, I am 100 percent convinced that it is just the right tool for me, so I would recommend it to both novice and expert users. You never know when it might come in handy.

The Good

After testing this software for a while and given the fact that I know very well all components and programs installed on my machine, I can say with certainty that it does its job pretty well. During my testing, I did not come across any uncorrelations between the generated report and the installed components.

The Bad

Although this is quite a complete System Information Software, something is still missing. A basic benchmark tool, for instance, would come in very handy with this kind of program.

The Truth

Just for the sake of argument, should you look for similar programs available on the market, you will find that some of are costly and weaker than Auslogics System Information. Given that this utility is completely free of charge and, on top of that, so complete, I'd say it's the "must have" type of application.
