  • amp;#039; It's unfair and absolutely certain that there are employees spending more than 30 minutes a day on the internet instead of honestly earning the money you are paying them. With Beyond Keylogger you can PUT AN END to this.

Everyone has a "dirty little secret", whether it's a precious piece of corporate information, or an imaginary friend. But for every secret out there, there is at least one person that longs to find out what it is.

This is where Beyond KeyLogger steps into the picture. This little program is a nice tool if you want to make an office prank, and not only.

What does it do

The program's main function is logging all activity performed on the computer, including text, video, audio, and screen activity.

After installing it, you are prompted to choose a password that you will need when viewing logs, changing settings, and such things. It's best to remember this password, because there's no way to retrieve it if you forget it, and uninstalling might turn out to be a much more complicated operation than you thought. You can change the password, but for this.

When the program starts, it will minimize itself, and a small icon will be placed in the System Tray for easy access. Also, you can select a combination of keys (including hotkeys) for calling the application.

Each time you enter the program you are asked to input the password.

Spying

After entering your password, you are presented with the main window. The interface isn't that well organized, and more work could have been done on it. The whole window is centered on the settings panel. But once you get over the appearance, things get easier and simpler.

The program is divided in six main sections: Settings, commands, log viewer, purchase, and support.

The Settings area allows you to make general and advanced adjustments to the program's default configuration.

What I like about it is that it features sound and screenshot logging. In this way, nothing will get past you, and your need for KNOWLEDGE. You can select between the quality, size, and time intervals or events for the screen-pictures that are taken. In this way, the program adapts to any system configuration, and can take up smaller or bigger amounts of log-storage space.

If you want to be mobile, you can set the program to send you logs to a specific e-mail address (SMTP server is required) or upload them straight to your FTP server.

The Commands tab is conveniently placed in the middle-left area of the window, for fast access to the "various" list of available commands. You can toggle between Start logging / Stop logging, select Hide (this will minimize the program, to the System Tray, without leaving), or Exit.

Next comes the fun part: the Log viewer tab. Here you can view "your" information in multiple formats, as I previously mentioned: text logs, web logs, visual logs, audio files. If you've just downloaded the logs from your mailbox or FTP server, you can access, or even print them from here.

There is a Purchase tab, which will direct you to the producer's website, where you can buy a full license (the version I tested is a seven day trial version).

The program comes with a manual, so should you bump into any problem, you can take a peek in the help menu and find out more information about how to use it.

If you still have problems using the software, you can click the Support button placed in the upper right part of the main window (you will be directed to the FAQ section of the producer's website); or, you can access the "Support e-mail" tab which will allow you to send a direct e-mail to the PR department with your specific request.

And, if you decide that this program is too much (or too less) for you, you can simply uninstall it (the last tab). It's an easy task, IF you know the password (mandatory step). If you've forgotten it, you might want to remember the producer's e-mail address, so you can send them an e-mail with a "special request", because it's going to take more than a few clicks to complete the uninstall.

This is a sneaky program that will disguise itself as an essential system process (csrss.exe), and you will not be able to terminate it using the task manager.

You can block and remove it using a good antispyware program, but just to be sure, it's recommended that you remove any registry keys it might have installed (a quick search on the Internet will help you find them).

The good

The good part about this program is that it offers many useful features that you can choose from. It's easy to use, and you'll get your way around easily when working with it.

The bad

The bad part about it is that the GUI isn't as much user-oriented, as it is settings-oriented. Once you get over the first look, things do become easier, and this inconvenient will be a minor one. Also, if you forget your password, there's no way to recover it, but your own memory.

The truth

You'll have fun working and playing with this piece of software. It's not too advanced for a rookie, and it's not too simple for an ace. But just keep in mind that pranks are only funny for the people that make them, and not for the victims, so don't make abuse of the program.
