Keep Your System Out of Trouble

A computer is like a modern car that can have mechanical or electronic breakdowns. The computer can have hardware or software problems, with the latter more likely to occur. What can be done to avoid them?

Usual solutions are keeping your Windows up to date, reinstalling it on a regular basis (I don't recommend it at all and I am sure that nobody would consider this "a solution"), getting an expert to help (and charge...) you or get a specialized program to keep your computer clean and in excellent running condition all the time. When that program is also free, this becomes a matter worth talking about.

Today's program is called BigFix and improves system performance, keeps the system clean and safe reducing the number of bugs and conflicts in real time. The program connects to technical support sites, gets latest news about bugs and conflicts that were discovered for the operating system you're running and tries to fix them. Time to start digging to find out more about it...

The interface of the program is simple and easy to use, so it shouldn't pose any problem even to beginners. The program functionality may seem limited to some people, but it's extremely useful if you think deeper about it.

BigFix doesn't scan your registry for errors, doesn't fix your hard drive surface errors and can't even erase your junk files. What is it good for then?

Being up to date is the key to facing hacking attacks and other problems, so BigFix gets the latest information about security and other system updates from more online sources and lets you know about them instantly. After installing the program, my advice is to subscribe to evesham.com and the site for your operating system.

All you have to do after subscribing to the needed fixlet message sites is read the important messages (SECURITY fixes are usually about critical patches that should be done as soon as possible, so these and the VIRUS messages should be checked first). The program has a built in web browser that allows you to perform most needed operations without using other applications.

The program doesn't have lots of options, and the existent ones are just enough for its purpose. You can block automatic fixlets gathering and also limit the downloading of these messages to a user defined time period, so they won't interfere with your work.

I must admit I was expecting more from this program, but I wasn't disappointed at all. In fact, I expected something else and I was surprised. BigFix is an excellent program for its purpose and every user concerned about keeping its Windows OS up to date should have it.

The Good

BigFix is easy to use for everybody and takes care of a task that tends to become a nightmare: patch management, especially in these times when getting a patch when you most need it is sometimes critical. For a free tool, this program is extremely useful.

The Bad

Using the program's full power requires time, and that's why I don't think it's a good choice for people who don't have it. Anyway, looking over the fixlets received without reading each one but only those who seem important shouldn't take too long. It's also bad that the program doesn't include any cleaning and troubleshooting tools.

The Truth

I am not an update freak, but I found this program to be quite useful. You don't have to worry too much about anything, just install it, add all the fixlets sites that you find to be useful for your operating system and then minimize it to your System Tray and let it do its job. If something important happens, you will be notified. Isn't it just wonderful?

BigFix is one more proof that most good things in life come for free, so don't wait any longer: get it now!
