To be honest, I have absolutely no idea about a Web browser called Popeye, but there's still enough time for this to happen. Until then, it seems that Bluto finally managed to beat Popeye, and it's not about Olive, but about getting a browser named Bluto XT, my first subject today.
There are a lot of things to expect from a good Web browser, and Bluto claims to be the world's fastest one, of course. I don't know why, but I feel it's going to happen just like in the cartoon...
Getting down to business, I can say that the latest version of the program is 6 and it comes as a huge 20MB install package. I can't even imagine why Bluto XT's luggage is so heavy, but it should be because of its high amount of features...or not, and that's what we shall see right away. Don't worry about the price, because the only price required by this program is the time you have to spend using it, that's all. Of course, if you want to donate, I won't stop you...
As far as I know, the year we are in is 2006. I look at my text editor, I look at my Web browser, and then I look at Bluto. Boy, this one is ugly for sure! You don't get tabbed browsing, but you can use the Split button and have two browsing windows available. There are no skins, no menu bar, the toolbar graphics look really bad and the overall feeling I get from this program's interface is like the one you would get when comparing FEAR or Unreal Tournament 2007 with Prehistorik 2 or Dyna, if you remember those oldies...
Oh, my, this program is also supposed to have some features, and I
am really afraid of what I am (not) going to find...but let's start with the awesome, unseen, completely original bookmark panels that will ease your browsing a lot, or they should...because there's no real bookmark/favorites management here, all you have to do is right click somewhere inside the program's window and you'll bookmark the current page. Wow! Am I getting a Nobel Prize for this discovery?
Another interesting discovery is that a lot of the features that are listed on the website, like notepad, clock, memory meter, news reader and so much more that are probably scheduled to appear in year 2564 or I was so stupid and couldn't notice them, although they are only one click away. Oh, yeah, they are one click away: the Close button works fine, and then I'll be able to use a decent Web browser with one click only!
The Good
Bluto XT is free and you can use it to surf the Internet! It also has a Quick Bookmarks panel that's almost useful, not to say about the amazing side bar controlled by the arrow that I wasn't able to find...
The Bad
This software has a lot of chances to enter my "top three worst programs", and probably it can even get the top spot! It looks bad, it claims to have a lot of features that don't exist, its author complains about the fact that he was cheated by a woman and has to receive 30,000$ in donations to recover some money he lost because of that...is this for real or what?
The Truth
The black hat goes well at funerals, and if this software producer stops this and gets a real job, I am sure he'll get that money much faster. If you want to try this program, it's your risk, you have been warned: stay away! Bluto, you did it again, shame on you, you brute! I hardly wait for Popeye Browser Pro...
