Version reviewed: BurnInTest Professional 5.1 Build 1009

BurnInTest is a software tool that simultaneously exercises all the major components of a computer, to test for endurance and reliability.

All hardware components burn in test
Temperature monitoring interface
Periodic logging of results
Cyclic reboot test

Here we are, after a long week and a lot of interesting programs. The last review of the week is one linked to the heat problem somehow.

When you overclock a computer's CPU, video card or memory, you need to ensure its perfect reliability. If you're a system builder, you have to test the new computers to their limit and beyond to provide maximum performance and no risk for your customers.
BurnInTest Professional is a program that simultaneously stresses your system's components to find the weak points of the computer, if any exist. All we have to check are the tests that can be performed, and I am sure you will be interested in running the program too, so too much talk about this program won't help.

The program has a small installation kit, a little over 2MB, and comes as a 30 day trial version with all features enabled. You won't get results about your hardware's performance, but you will find out everything you need about its reliability instead.

The test that can be performed start with your storage units and end with temperature/battery monitoring.

Hard drives can be tested for hours, even days, and you can enable a threshold value for the transfer rate in order to receive a warning when that value is reached. For the optical units there are five test modes, including write mode (only when the drive allows it, of course).

There are tests available for your memory, network and USB devices, video card and much more. For example, you can stress your video card with 2D and 3D tests at the same time, but it doesn't end here.

The power of the program comes from the fact that it can test every hardware component
present in your system at the same time, so think about having your computer use its CPU, video card, memory, hard drive and network devices at full speed for, let's say, one day! If a computer can pass such a test, then you won't need to worry about your hardware state and reliability in the near future, that's for sure!

The results of the tests can be logged in ASCII or HTML format for further analyzing. You can save different test configurations and load them when you need to (for example, you can have separate laptop and desktop test configurations ready for use, so you won't need to waste time setting up the program each time), which I think it's great for system builders and hardware engineers, and can be useful even for home users with special needs...

If you can't take your computer to a racing track and ride at full speed, don't worry. BurnInTest can help you do that, and even more. That experience is one click away, and I wish you good luck!

The Good

BurnInTest Professional is small, easy to use and almost perfect for its task.

The Bad

I don't know what to say, because this program has almost everything it needs to have in order to be a good program. Maybe it would have been useful for beginners to have a more detailed Help file and a powerful 3D stress test (the existing one doesn't use the Pixel Shader at all), but I don't have anything else to add here.

The Truth

When talking about your computer's hardware, you can't trust it because you had no problems so far. You must be sure. If you're a system builder, you can't trust your favorite hardware manufacturers and your experience, you have to be sure, it's your reputation at stake. Get BurnInTest Professional, use it and stay safe!
