Every day we deal with various situations, tasks or other things that can occupy our mind. At home or at work, our schedule can get very busy and we often find ourselves surrounded by tons of information that we need to remember at a given time. That’s where those brightly colored sticky notes appear and tend to suffocate your desk.

Desktop Reminder is a small and easy to use application that will help you deal with your every day tasks and will never forget to remind you those important things you have to do, like attending a meeting, remembering someone's birthday, scheduling your appointments, etc. The application is very small, occupying only 1.30 MB, and is released under the Freeware license which means you can use it for free, for as long you want, without any limitations.

The interface of the software is as simple as can be and provides you quick access to all of its features. The first time you run Desktop Reminder you will be able to add a new task just by pressing the New Task button from the main toolbar. This will open a new window where you can easily setup the task or reminder you have in mind.

The upper part of this window allows you to select the date for your task and even gives you access to a Calendar to easily search for a convenient time frame for the reminder. The calendar can be easily browsed and is able to also Show week numbers. The application can be configured to remind you about this task earlier than its scheduled occurrence, by selecting the appropriate number of days, weeks or months from the drop down menus.

With all this settled, Desktop Reminder also permits adding a description (in the Description dialog box) to the newly scheduled job so that you have all the information on the reminder set. Moreover, the software makes available two more options that will help you easily manage and schedule your tasks.

In the lower left part of the New Task window, you will be able to choose whether schedule a reminding note only once or repeat it after a selected time interval. Reoccurrence of the alert can be set every year, month or week, according to your needs.

The lower right part of this window allows you to select the time of day when you want Desktop Reminder to notify you about the scheduled announcement. You can choose the exact hour and minute when the application should produce the alert about the selected task. You can also configure Desktop Reminder to show the notification message when the task begins or earlier, by selecting a predefined time period.

Going back to the main window Desktop Reminder will ease up cleaning through notifications by displaying Missed Tasks, Urgent Tasks and Future Tasks. You can Modify or Delete one or multiple tasks with the help of the corresponding buttons from the main interface. The same options can be accessed from the context menu of a selected item or from Edit menu of the application.

The Mark as done button allows you to mark a job as finished and will delete it automatically if it's scheduled to run only once or update the starting date according to its repeat mode. Should you confront with multiple tasks, Desktop Reminder comes to the rescue with the Filter option that will help you view only those items related to a user-defined text string. This can very well double as a search function.

The Options window of Desktop Reminder helps setup the application to start with Windows so it can automatically notify about tasks, choose the first day of the week for the Calendar window and select or change the database file. If you want to hide the program window in the system tray, you can tick the Minimize to Tray checkbox.

The Notification window will clearly display your scheduled task and give you three options: to mark task as done, modify it or remind you later, in a few minutes or hours, depending on the selected time frame.

Desktop Reminder will definitely make your work a lot easier by remembering the important tasks when you need to and even clean up your desk of those annoying little post its.

The Good

Desktop Reminder is a small and lightweight application that will help you organize and never forget your important tasks. It can also work as a scheduler, enabling you to enter various tasks that repeat themselves on a regular basis. It does its job with no mistakes and is very low on system resources using only 24 MB of RAM.

The Bad

Some minor additions could become useful: the ability to restore previous tasks, audio alerts for the current tasks, better filtering, more configurable task categories. Apart from that, the application behaves and works with ease.

The Truth

All in one, Desktop Reminder is a useful application for people that confront with many tasks on a daily basis and even for home users that will appreciate the simplicity and ease of use. Besides the small improvements that have to be made, it has a small footprint on system resources and will always keep you up to date with your current schedule.
